Speculation: Inevitable Hughes trade

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.

Here's what I can't wrap my mind around a team trying to get all 3. Who is going to pay Luke Hughes 9 Million to be on the 2nd pair and run 2 PP.

Quinn is going to get the prime minutes, leaving Luke horrible over paid for his role.
Luke has, at times, shown incredibly good ES metrics. If he’s playing 20 great ES minutes a night plus 2nd PP, that’s an absolutely fine number.

Obviously, he needs to stay healthy and get consistent, but any schmuck can run a power play, that value is in dominating the most common game state.

I can't see Guerin trading him until next June even if it's clear that Hughes is walking next summer. The only way I see it is if we surprisingly fall out of the playoff hunt and then Hughes can be a rental. Billy's all-in strategy is blown up without Hughes. I don't see him taking the L of dealing Quinn.

No one, that's why it won't matter that Luke is still in NJ when Jack forces his way to Minnesota to play with Quinn.
No way in hell that Jack does that and Quinn is ok with that too . Jack forcing his way to play with Quinn while leaving Luke in NJ is a big slap in the face by the two bros to Luke . Only way Jack goes to Minny is if Luke is going too .
No wonder why Billy G tried to get Luke this last season.

you'd think it would suck even worse to get shown up so badly by the brother ahead of you in the lineup. Really highlights how much better your brother is than you when he gets so much more ice time. I guess it's like being a nepo-hire; some people are just happy to have a job and don't care everyone knows why they're there.

I don't think Luke gives a shit about his ice time visavis Quinn. He wants to win.

And this is where Werenski makes it interesting. Gives Guerin a lifeline to Swap Quinn for Werenski in a 3-way with NJ. Quinn gets what he wants, Guerin saves face, Werenski joins up with what looks to be a good team moving forward, and Columbus gets the assets back for Werenski.

NHL players live a charmed life as it is, yet a few seem to also need to work with their siblings like a security blanket.
Or maybe they just like each other, are friends, believe they can win together, and realize what a blessing they have and how rare it is to even be in this position. But also, time is short.

Think Quinn will be traded to Devils, after it's clear Dylan Larkin is not going to Minnesota.

And they will use those Nemec-trade picks on that trade.

Q. Hughes --> to NJD

for

NJD 1st at 2027 (maybe some protection?)
VGK 1st at 2027 (top10 protected)
NJD 1st at 2028 (maybe some protection?)
COL 1st at 2028 (top10 protected)

He'll extend there of course etc.

I think Silayev probably takes one of those spots but this is why Werenski is interesting in this whole thing. It could actually speed up this entire process for Quinn and Guerin.

Jack and Luke signal plans to sign with Wild as UFA. NJ trades each for futures to MIN for Pennie’s on dollar

What does the Wild not trading for a player that wasn't available till recently have to do with Quinn re-signing? Seems like you're a spurned Wings fan trying to think up a scenario where Minnesota gets screwed because you're upset Larkin wants to play there.

The Hughes brothers are grown men, sort of.

Why do they need to play on the same team as each other.
Go watch the Tkachuk podcast of them saying how excited they were and their families are about this. It’s happening.

I said it before - I dont think Quinn is dying to play with his brothers anytime soon, at least not on New Jersey who is a mid team. He can always join them elsewhere or later in his career, Scott Niedermayer style.

I know right! Absolutely insane to want to play with your brother, live in the same city so your kids can grow up with their cousins, and family all attend the same games together.

Yep. If the Hughes brothers want to play together in the same city, that's a very relatable human desire. Not sure why anyone would slag them for it.
