Speculation: Inevitable Hughes trade

  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.

Minnesota is a significantly more popular spot for American born players right now than New Jersey
Right now is doing a lot of heavy lifting for Minnesota. Jack and Luke have lots of term left. If NJ has a couple of good seasons and Minnesota can't get past the usual suspects in the playoffs that new contender smell will wear off. Even two years is an eternity in sports.

Meh. I know you are just responding to some posts that have said NJ can pay less for Quinn but the reality is Luke is a brother and anyone who thinks that it's just about Jack and Quinn is missing the point. Luke is signed for six years. He has no trade protection and cannot force his way to Minnesota. I think the reality is all three only end up together on a bad team when their deals expire because a good team isn't going to have the cap for all three and a contender is not likely to want to turn their locker room over to the family. Minnesota fans are new to the Hughes family dynamic. Give it some time.
NHL power broker Luke Hughes. It's all about Luke now. He has to be on a team with his brothers. I heard Jack cuts his food.

Do the Devils take a chance and trade that much for a player when you can wait a year and get him for zero?
Personally I wait.
Losing Nemec sucks, but it really wasn't a loss to the current D roster as NJ has depth.
I would rather spend those assets on Knies or another forward.
THen next year you've just added the best D in the league for nothing.
Six in 1 have a dozen of the other I think.

I don't know whether to be comforted that other fanbases are having to deal with this kind of bullshit or annoyed that the bullshit is happening regardless. Might just go with both simultaneously.
Try being a nucks fan lol.
I mean this is absolutely the most toxic media and fairweather fan base in the league.
The media blacklisted by the owners years ago has led them to create false narratives and hyper focus on the tiniest of things to make it an issue and many of our fans are in fact transplants who become insufferable in good times but show their true colours in tough times which isn't Vancouver specific but is taken to a whole other level here.

That’s fine if there are two brothers but completely ignores Luke so not likely at all assuming the goal is to all play together.

And we’re also assuming Quinn stays as is value wise and Jack moves up from his current aav to at least a ppg type healthy player right? So shopping $30M to a team is quite a strategy if the goal is also winning. Going to be very limited in terms of suitors.

But Quinn would take most of Luke's prime minutes

No way Jack does that unless Luke is coming too .
Here's what I can't wrap my mind around a team trying to get all 3. Who is going to pay Luke Hughes 9 Million to be on the 2nd pair and run 2 PP.

Quinn is going to get the prime minutes, leaving Luke horrible over paid for his role.

Yurov, Brodin, Middleton, Gustavsson, Ritchie, two 1sts, a 5th for Hughes x2

Otherwise both Hughes brothers leave NJ for nothing and NJ won't get much for them down the line because it's the worst kept secret that they'll only sign extensions in Minnesota

Well, Luke still has term and is not a contract concern, but he's also not that good

Minnesota gets the brothers, NJ gets to keep trying to be competitive
Luke isn’t going anywhere for 6 more years

No one, that's why it won't matter that Luke is still in NJ when Jack forces his way to Minnesota to play with Quinn.
