Speculation: Inevitable Hughes trade

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.

Thought you were talking about Kent Hughes and his thing for Trades on or near draft day.

Draft 2022 Romanov picks to Dach
summer 2022 Petry-Matheson and Monahan +1st for FC
draft 2023 Newhook for picks
draft 2024 - move up fore Hage
draft 2025 Dobson trade, Bolduc trade and move up for Zharosky or whatever his name is

Kent cooks at draft time

Curveball, Hughes for Hischier then Larkin to Jersey for the picks from the Nemec trade and some other pieces. Stevie Y then flips those picks for EP40

Honest question what is New Jersey doing? Are they rebuilding? Competing?...screwing around and trying to do everything at once?
They just traded a guy who was up to get paid (and reportedly had high demands, at least in NJ), while not moving the needle for them on the ice presently and who was competing with 3 other legitimate NHL players on the right side. Nemec wasn't a core piece, so this is hardly a rebuilding move, it's turning a (potentially depreciating) asset into several much more fungible ones.

They're clearly competing (or trying to), and receiving futures for Nemec doesn't change that at all, lol

Quinn resigns in MN for a bridge. We punt this conversation for a few years. Feels like most insiders have come to the conclusion this is the most likely scenario.
That’s fine if there are two brothers but completely ignores Luke so not likely at all assuming the goal is to all play together.

And we’re also assuming Quinn stays as is value wise and Jack moves up from his current aav to at least a ppg type healthy player right? So shopping $30M to a team is quite a strategy if the goal is also winning. Going to be very limited in terms of suitors.

Yurov, Brodin, Middleton, Gustavsson, Ritchie, two 1sts, a 5th for Hughes x2

Otherwise both Hughes brothers leave NJ for nothing and NJ won't get much for them down the line because it's the worst kept secret that they'll only sign extensions in Minnesota

Well, Luke still has term and is not a contract concern, but he's also not that good

Minnesota gets the brothers, NJ gets to keep trying to be competitive

Meh. I know you are just responding to some posts that have said NJ can pay less for Quinn but the reality is Luke is a brother and anyone who thinks that it's just about Jack and Quinn is missing the point. Luke is signed for six years. He has no trade protection and cannot force his way to Minnesota. I think the reality is all three only end up together on a bad team when their deals expire because a good team isn't going to have the cap for all three and a contender is not likely to want to turn their locker room over to the family. Minnesota fans are new to the Hughes family dynamic. Give it some time.

That's some serious cope. Yes, Devils will lose Luke Hughes for nothing in 6 years and Jack in 4. If Quinn wants to play with his brothers, then for now it's NJ or nothing. If he doesn't care that much but wants to keep the door open later, he will sign with Minnesota for 3 years.

Faber and Boldy? no.
The short term deal makes the most sense assuming Quinn wants to win and also wants to play with his brothers at some point.
edit: I don't know how much thought either team or any of the players have put into this but from my point of view if this is something being considered at all it at least means MIN isn't going to be offering anything serious for Larkin until a deal here is done.
