Sabres have three top notch left shot D, who are all relatively young. They need to trade from this position of strength to fill in their depth. IMO Power or Dahlin would return the most while opening up cap space to accommodate that return.

Team falls apart even more if you move Dahlin

Nah. Went 2 Point/GM last year in the WHL. That's double Golden Boy Minten's production.

The Condors are an offensive black hole this year, nearly dead last in offence. Savoie's got nothing to work with down there.
Yeah cause junior scoring is everything and the way a player scores in junior definitely translate 1:1 to the NHL 🤣

Called it a good trade for Buffalo on day one because savoie is extremely overrated and so far look who's right :)

Minten will end up with a far better and longer NHL career than savoie.

So on par for you to bring up the leafs in a Buffalo thread because someone said something not so nice about your new shiny toy you're being blinded by.

As for the Sabres. They really need to stop rushing guys to the NHL. All it is doing is instilling a losing culture and that has to be extremely bad on the mental. Benson should have stayed in the WHL this year and last year. Theyve done a terrible job insulating their youth over the years.

Byram/Dahlin/Power is a very good defensive trio, just young. Don't do anything silly and trade one or let them walk.

Florida didn't win a Playoff series from the 1996-97 season through the 2020-21 season. They missed the Playoffs 10 straight seasons, which occurred over 11 years, and after a single postseason appearance missed again 3 straight seasons, then one playoff appearance followed by 3 more straight misses.

Eh they are good offensive D. Like having 3 Kris Letangs on your roster. Too much of the same type of player on buffalo. Soft offensive dmen and soft forwards who refuse to consistently back check.

Buffalo needs to hire someone who knows it takes different kinds of players to build a team

the current path of developing a winning culture is clearly not working. And they do have an obvious position of strength at left D that can be used to advantage. A top two left D of Dahlin - Byram or Power - Byram is still excellent, while reallocating the cap costs to needed depth at other positions.
Rangers are a trade partner the Sabres should consider. IMO the return for Dahlin or Power (especially Dahlin) could change the culture of losing and set Sabres up for a long run of winning.

The biggest problem Pegula is just a cheap loser. If ownership doesn't change Sabres will be trailing just right behind a wild card spot forever

I disagree that he is a cheap loser. He just ran the team straight into the ground. If anything, he thought his money was going to rocket the Sabres to the top. He threw money around in the first half of his tenure like it was going out of style.

Now? He isn’t spending money like before but I don’t think players from outside of the organization want his money.

So, he really isn’t a cheap loser. He’s just a loser.

They are drafting &/or developing poorly

Jack Quinn is a huge disapointment for a 8th OA

Dylan Cozens is very disapointing for a 7th OA

Matt Savoie is busting/disapointing elsewhere but he was a 9th OA pick who has become a ~40 pt 3C which isnt an ideal hit for that draft slot

Kulich (28OA) , Rosen (14OA) , Ostlund (15 OA), Benson (13 OA), none have stepped up and become top 6 players with only Benson being a regular solid NHLer from that group so far

Now the main issue is likely its the Buffalo Curse lol

Eichel,
Reinhart
Risto
Kane

RoR
Montour
Mittlestadt to an extent (broke out in Sabres already)

All guys who became better or found a lot of success after leaving the Sabres. The above group may see that as well as the Sabres just have no/little luck with their prospects becoming key players WHILE on the team and not after being moved on
I agree except with the bolded, these two haven't done much since leaving Buffalo.

I've watched the Sabres since the early 70's. I was born 2 months after the team played it's first ever game. I was 5, in the Aud, 2 rows up with my mom and dad at the Fog Game in the 75 finals. I've been a die Hard fan my entire life. No reason to list the calamities the organization has endured during my fan tenure, they're now legendary with any Sabres fan, well, at least those that are left.

The owner Terry Pegula, ya, sell the team, it's time.
You realize, if he sells the team, it is likely to an owner taking them to Houston or Kansas City or Atlanta right?

This isnt a simple reset, new owner, new building in Buffalo. The city wasted its money to keep a stadium in Orchard Park because the city of Buffalo is dead and does not have the amenities for a real stadium.

I remember how overjoyed Buffalo fans were when Pegula bought the Sabres.

Guess the honeymoon period is over.
Context is important. Buffalo had just endured John Rigas, whose legacy of embezzlement with Adelphia is up there with Enron and WorldCom. That ownership group lost Hasek and dismantled the (admittedly overachieving) '99 Cup Finals team due to finances. Tom Golisano bought the team out of bankruptcy and kept the team here in some failed bid to up his chances in a NY governor race. His penny pinching dismantled the 2006-2007 team President's trophy winning team, causing Briere and Drury to leave in FA.

Pegula came in, was independently wealthy from destroying the Earth, and promised to give the franchise all the stability and support necessary. He was a fan. He made some truly awful hires and FA signings, and then overextended himself by buying the Bills and building a bunch of businesses that failed during COVID. The arena is falling apart, the team is in some sort of helpless morass, and the GM is out there complaining that Buffalo is so terrible that no one wants to come here because of losing, taxes, and lack of palm trees.

Pegula was viewed as a hero when he came in. He burned through an incredible amount of goodwill in the past 14 years, destroyed the brand, and basically ruined an entire hockey market. It could be the subject of a wonderful MBA case study, "The value and destruction of an intangible asset." Most of us have mourned the death of what we once loved and would not shed a tear if they moved. I hate this team, and I hate the league even more. The Sabres are the worst franchise in the worst professional sports league in North America. I am mostly here for the schadenfreude and some sort of familial obligation. This is my inheritance, my burden to bear.

Yes, we are fully aware. Is it better to have your loved one's corpse buried peacefully, or it is better to see their decrepit carcass used as a marionette in front of you every day? The franchise is dead. Please let our memories exist in a peaceful place.

Did you guys celebrate when he bought the team from Tom Golisano, Larry Quinn, and Dan DiPofi?

I'm sure I'm not the only one who locked into my fandom at that moment. I was wishy washy on them throughout the 90s and early 2000s, and embarrassed at the criminality of the ownership. Then Golisano, who we disliked at the time for being stingy (but have since learned to appreciate the hundreds of millions of dollars he donates to western NY for things more important than signing Chris Drury), sold it to Pegula and we all thought: The Sabres have wealthy, competent ownership and none of the prior incompetencies or lack of finances will hinder the team anymore. So I said yeah, I'll finally be a fan of my local team.

What a decision to make, 13 years ago.

You do realize, the earth destroys itself every single moment of every single day. It's called seduction, the movement of the plates, one under another, dragging everything that is atmosphere bound back in to the earth itself.
What? Did you honestly believe this planet was never going to end? That sun we'll eventually burn out. Yes, science has proven the Andromeda galaxy is already colliding with our milky way. Get over yourself, the planet won't be here forever.

Inform Gary that the NHL is done. I'm sure all that money can go elsewhere.

Hard agree. To add:

You realize people are dying every single moment of every single day.

Why are we wasting all this time and money on health care? Like, did you honestly think that you'd never die? Everyone ever born has died. Get over yourself, you won't be here forever. Enough wasting our time with doctors and medicine. Why fight the inevitable and make things temporarily better for yourself?

Good stuff, way to give everyone a wake up call here. Go do some deep breathing up in Love Canal.

Not to worry, Sabres fans, you get to play the Rangers tomorrow night, losers of 8 of the last 10, who just lost at home to the worst team in the league. They'll make Buffalo look like an all-star team at this rate, thus kicking off the Sabres' rise from the dead!

No we won't. We just extended our own losing streak to 7 games by giving up a 2 goal third period lead to a non-playoff team on its own 5 game losing streak. The Sabres are on a different level of suck. I wish them well in Houston or Atlanta.
