Awesome to see Shesty come in cold off the bench and play like an absolute stud.

Also, I'll ask this in here since I know PB will answer, what are your opinions of Igor Ozhiganov?

Meh, I wouldn't personally give this guy an NHL contract, but I think someone will. I'm just not sure he's an impact player in the NHL. I think he's a bottom pairing defenseman who can help on the PP, and defend a little. If we are looking for older KHL defenders, I'd be much more willing to sign Bogdan Kiselevich or Yegor Yakovlev. I think both have a better chance at being top 4 defenseman.

If we are looking at KHL defenseman, I'd prefer Artyom Zub who I think is going to have a big breakout season next season, so we better get ahead of the curve. SKA bought him from a small team in Eastern Russia. He started with a small role, but has been really good later on in the season when a lot of SKA's defense has been injured. +1 Draft-eligible Grigori Dronov would not be a bad pick. Besides that, I don't think the KHL D market is anything too good, besides the already mentioned Bereglazov and Antipin. I'd be much more willing to look to Sweden.

Alex Nunn says that Shesty is starting today and Costco isn't even backing up.

Trying to find out if this is true. Costco must have really injured himself to not even back up.

Kids making the kind of progress you want to see from a goalie at his age.

I'd love to see him in Hartford sooner rather than later.

It is.

This is a non-starter with good KHL players. They'll stay in the KHL until they are good enough to make an NHL team. They don't want to be riding busses when they could be getting paid a lot to live in their home country and get better treatment than AHL players.

If anyone gets One World Sports on their TV provider or whatever the channel is now called, they are showing the game when its on at 12 today. I've watched their KHL broadcasts before, and they are in English with a PBP announcer, which is nice, so if you are for some reason at home right now, have that channel, and want to watch Shestyorkin, this is an opportunity.

He's as cool as a cucumber right now. SKA currently up 1-0 with about 6 minutes remaining in the 2nd period.

EDIT: Make that 2-0!

Three minutes to go...31 saves.

Stats look very good, though it looks like SKA is not having the best third period. 11 saves this period, and they took 2 penalties.

Onto Gagarin Cup final where they likely meet Metallurg (up 3:0). Shesterkin won the last two games on the road including this clincher!

33 of 34 saves. Really nice performance. He just looks the part. Not for a second did you think he was going to wilt when Loko was coming at SKA late in the game trying to tie it up. The goal scored was a shorthanded goal that wasn't really savable. Kind of a 2 on 2 where one player went to the net, forward beat the defender to the spot, and tipped it past Shestyorkin.

I always mention it, but he doesn't have good stats because he plays on a good team, he has good stats because he's a good player. He might not have the career resume of a Datsyuk or Kovalchuk or Shipachyov or anyone like that, but he certainly is a big reason why that team is as good as they are. I like our crop of goalies. Huska seems really solid, Wall seems promising, but Shestyorkin is a notch or two above. He has future really good NHL starter written all over him. The others are maybes, I think this guy is past the maybe category at this point. Its hard to compare goalie prospects to skater prospects, but I think there is a good argument that he's our best prospect in a very long time. Talent was always there, performance at lower levels was as well, now he's doing it in the hardest environment outside the NHL for the best team there is outside the NHL. There are no sure things, but he's close to one.

Isles fan coming in peace. I watch a decent amount of KHL hockey because of my evening-heavy work schedule. You guys are going to be thrilled with Shestyorkin. He's positionally sound, athletic, and remarkably composed for a young kid. SKA's team defense is exceptional, mostly by virtue of puck possession. They are a bit softer in front of the net than they would like, but they don't give up a lot of opportunities. He doesn't get peppered, but he makes the saves he has to and is very good in-tight.
