"This is AL THE OCTOPUS from the Joe Louis Arena and the Detroit Red Wings. This is a piece of hockey history, the Red Wings Dynasty. Your chance to own a piece of hockey history. 30,000 OBO

This breaks my heart to sell but I know it could be put to good use somewhere at a sports bar or someone's storage garage for cars or other things in Michigan or whoever is a big Detroit Red Wings fan.

Every piece is signed by Al Sobotka, the Zamboni driver for years at The Joe.

I planned on keeping it forever, but I had cancer years ago and permanently beat it, but some bill caught up with me and I want to be debt free in my new life. This would help.

I know this will be the ultimate bragging piece for a Detroit Red Wings fan.

The legs come off to get it through doors. apparently they use wood and glue and a little wrap to put it back together every year for the playoffs and you'd never know. This is how they stored it every offseason. off with the legs, and back on.

Feel free to reach me personally. If my finances chance soon I will remove this ad, but right now, I could use this to pay off some bills fast.

I know this will make someone really happy, and shoud be in a restaurant, sportsbar or huge fans hands."

Given how iconic it was for a generation of Wings fans, I'm surprised it's that low. It would be awesome to have that hanging above the bar while a dozen giant TVs show show a Wings game, if I'm a Detroit sports bar owner I'm leaping at that.
I think with how mediocre the wings have been for a long while that there would be less interest for many people to buy that since the organizations image now vs then is unrecognizable. Personally I wouldn’t buy that even if I was a sports bar owner in the area.

You can get Yzerman's game-worn PO jersey for 3k (auction link) and you would pay 10 times that for a giant squid completely unrecognizable to people under 30 with no authentication at all signed by Zamboni driver? You better have a rich dad if you want to run your business like that.

Several articles say that Al was originally purchased for $7,700 on auction.

FWIW, I saw one article saying it was $30k CAD, so about $22k USD. That ought to be enough to spur one of our Red Wing fans to jump on the opportunity.

That is absolutely ridiculous.

How in the hell can the average person afford to even come close to owning that! I mean think of the space it takes up! How can someone even find a suitable spot to put that in their home? Talk about a tripping hazard!

:sarcasm:
