People are ripping this person, but it's true. This useless franchise doesn't deserve a single fan. Loyalty is earned, and they haven't done it.

Do something with your lives. Play a sport IRL. Learn a hobby. Write a book. Stop caring about a bunch of millionaires who don't even know your name and laugh their way to the golf course.

I'm angry and sad at seeing yet another failure for this team, but I'm not going to be quitting them. If fans quit on their team after every depressing/devastating/mind blowing setback, then there wouldn't be any Cubs fans left to celebrate when they finally won their first championship in 108 years of failure and disappointments.

No..but I’ll be angry and bitter..well, even more angry and bitter than usual, for a very long time.

I’ll always be a fan, but I don’t know how to keep putting my heart and soul into them only to be stomped on and crushed over and over.
Not good for your health brother they don’t seem to care so why are you pour your heart out anymore I gave up

You mean one of the only guys out there actually doing anything ?

try again.
Clearly, you don't have the ability to see the big picture. I'm a big WIlly critic. But he's been better the last year and change. But that set the tone for Dubas as a GM. And he was taken advantage of ever since.

ANd what is doing anything? We keep losing. Great...he scored 3 goals against a team that wouldn't even be in the playoffs in a regular season. WOO HOO! Fact is....this team can't win.

I'm on the opposite spectrum of so many here. I wasn't a fan this year and I missed hockey. When theyh went up 3-1 I was sadder because I was convinced it would shelter our trash managememnt yet again.

I'm probably the only one happy tonight :) It's a good thing long-term y'all. Unless MLSE sits on their hands which is totally possible with how dumb they are. But I don't see how SHanny and Dubas keep their jobs at this point. PLEASE can them both.

What big picture. Willy was and is worth every penny he signed for. He would get that and more any day of the week at that point of his career. Just a strange thing to base Dubas’ career off of IMO. But you do you.

Won't stop being a fan but after almost 20 years of cheering for the Leafs, I finally realize why we are perceived as a joke of a franchise by other fan bases.

Not even the frontline workers could save these chokers

Is it really a "choke" when a franchise's best players intentionally sabotage their own team year after year?

What's even funnier in all of this, you have primma donnas paid mega bucks to just disappear.

this is where the joke is on the fans

these superstars aren't disappearing because they had a bad night or they couldn't handle the pressure - they are disappearing intentionally - just like regular jobs, not everyone is happy with their employer for a wide list of reasons. And when that happens, employees become disgruntled and then put in a half-@ss effort. We've all seen it in our own jobs.

Sports is no different - it would seem with this pattern the last 5 or 6 playoff series, that there's a pretty good chance that a number of players are just not happy about something... and so they intentionally "stick it" to their employer (in this case, the leafs)

Matthews, marner, and a few others - are absolutely in this group of people. These superstars don't just vanish like this when it counts - they are doing it on purpose for whatever reason that may be. Only they know.

They get to cash their million-dollar paycheques tomorrow and head away for a great summer.

The fans who can't see that this is entertainment and NOT real life are left crying in the dust

And as such.... the joke is on the fans

54 years. 54 f***ing years. I'm there. Can't do this anymore.

I'm with ya bro.

In 79 when Lanny scored in Game 7 OT against the Islanders I thought this could be it, we might have a cup soon. Of course Ballard screwed that up.

Then in 93 the Conference finals, Game 6 up in the series 3-2, tied into OT Kerry Fraser screws us and we lose, than go onto drop Game 7 by a goal.

2002 Losing to Carolina OT in Game 6 of the Conference Finals.

Salute gate with Phaneuf as Captain

The playoff collapses to the Bruins

Zamboni driver

Now this, losing to the garbage Habs.

It never ends.

I actually posted here under another name for years, but quit cause the Leafs drove me nuts. Couldn't remember my password and had changed my email a few times so when I returned several years later I had to create a new account.

This time would be different I thought, we finally did the right thing and tanked for a few years. I really thought we'd be competing for a cup soon, silly me, same old Leafs, same old joke of a franchise.

54 years and no cups, not even a finals appearance.

17 years without a series win and choking away several where we should have won, including this one.

I'm done, gonna spend my time and money on something more fulfilling.

I'm done too. I've watched almost every game for a long time. Followed on YT and obviously on HF(which since I've been here has turned into a pretty toxic forum). But I'm done. Don't have the thick skin for this. I don't blame anyone for leaving. Honestly, I can't deal with the pain and the mental health this team causing me. Honestly, I'm probably done with watching hockey too. I gotta use my time more wisely. I'd recommend everyone do the same. Look at all the hours you've wasted supporting this team and never to have anything in return, not even 1 single playoff series win in 17 years. I'm done. I'm sure some lurkers will enjoy this but i'm done swimming in the misery that is this leafs team. Goodbye, everyone.
Dang. I felt this one.

Again...set the tone for a weak leader getting walked all over moving forward. Have you heard of the Butterfly effect?

Of course will always be a fan or as long as TO is my home city.

But for now, I'm taking a break away from this team until they're capable of winning a playoff series since watching regular season is kinda pointless.... so until then I'll only be watching from afar.

Was fun chatting with all of you guys all these years.

Canada's Team signing off for now -- cheers :thumbu:

In the year 2075 if the Leafs are still alive if Thornton can survive they may find...

Tear it down and start again.

This is going to be my lengthy history so dont read on if you have no interest or skip down to the line for my main point. I think I just need to vent this for my own sake.

In the 80's I was young, started watching in 1982 and loved everything about hockey and the players, and the Leafs were the family team that I fell in love with. My dad bled blue since 1945 and I watched every hockey night in Canada game and even listened to a few on the radio with him.

In the 90's I started paying far more attention to the games and the stats and became very intensely involved in following the team. Watching sports shows on tv, reading newspapers for stats and buying hockey magazines. I never missed a Leaf game and if I was going to I would record it on the VCR. When i got Internet in 1996 I started listening to radio broadcasts from the states when games weren't televised.

In the 2000's I was full bore with every leafs. I was watching 75-80 games a year with NHL Center Ice combined with pirate streams and regular tv. I was active in hockey forums, rumour forums, drafts and leagues, stat spreadsheets and made trade deadline and draft day work vacation days. Season openers were completed with a feast of goodies and drinks.
Most of all I was a monstrous Leaf apologist and every single year was optimism followed by the inevitable "next year will be better". After that devastating Flyers loss in 2003/04 with the team that was supposed to be "the one" the dark ages began but i stood my ground hoping for any sign.

In the 2010's I became jaded with not only the Leafs, but hockey and the "business" of sports in general. Where loyalty to players, teams, fans, traditions and pride vanished and replaced with dollars and media. 2013 vs the Bruins was the most intense hockey I had experienced in a literal decade and i realized how much i wanted that back. But man did i hate the team that came from that. From the owners to the players I despised them and I started walking away slowly, watching maybe 2/3 of the games.

When Babcock arrived and the current core started being drafted, ownership changed, management changed and seemingly the vision changed and I had huge hopes. But some time went on and the pattern of play returned somehow. Lazy, inconsistent, entitled, sloppy and timid. In 2019 after the Bruins loss I made the decision to start stepping back. I only watched a few full games, mostly partial games and highlights. Still participated in forums and speculated with opinions and such but trying not to get to invested because it was actually ruining my attitude in life. The thought of 20 year olds making millions and deciding they only needed to play hard in spurts just made me bitter and angry. Why was I wasting my time and any money to support that kind of thing?

This was the first year since 1982 that I didnt watch a single full Leaf hockey game and that includes the playoffs. Why? Well for starters the pieces of games I did watch it was easy to pick out the same repetitive problems this version of the Leafs have and I am all but done with that lazy crap. Secondly, even if on paper this might be the best Leaf team assembled in 40 years I never once felt comfortable they would win. This Montreal series should have been a gimmie, and Habs can take all sorts of offense to that but I dont care. Anything less than a cup visit for this Leafs team was a failure in my eyes although I probably would have settled for a 7 game conference finals.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
18 years without a series win. 54 years without a Stanley Cup and 54 years of never even being in the Cup Finals.

For those wanting to cut ties and leave, I dont blame you or deride you one little ounce of a bit. For the long-timers you have earned the right through pain and suffering to do what is best for your health and your happiness. If a bunch of entitled, spoiled, lazy and no loyalty millionaire kids have broken your last string of attachment to this team or even hockey....go and dont look back. But leave with pride knowing you as a fan earned better and deserved more. I will say though that my decision to still be a "fan" of the crest that ive loved for nearly 40 years, while also taking a large step back from my participation has done wonders in my life. I still keeps tabs, watch some highlights and have some small talk with others. But things like tonight which are pretty much the normal for us are extremely easy to swallow.

For those that want to kick people such as myself out the door because you dont feel the same negative thoughts or dont feel we have a right to be negative or need to walk away from the team entirely. I would imagine the majority of you are where I was in the mid 2000's so I understand that sentiment completely, but at the same time I would urge at least some respect to those that put in their time, bled this team for decades and just dont have anything left to give. Dont throw them away as idiot fans because you have no real idea what their relationship to this team they have had. When I see the maple leaf i think of my dad and my childhood first and foremost. To see others here hurting and needing to leave behind something so close to them, only to be cast out...it really sucks.
