I will never stop being a fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs. But investing time and hope in it.
I don't have the strength for it anymore. Spending my nights with the NHL as a European at 45. Or watching the games the next morning while I have three small children. And spending hours upon hours on this forum for 13 years, sometimes more, sometimes less, hoping for the new talent etc. I really thought we were there now when we signed Tavares. So disappointed in Matthews and Marner.
I wish you all the best for the future. Hopefully I will manage to invest my time more wisely in the future. Watching the news once a month maybe. Checking the scoreboard next season. Hopefully I'll be back in a future Leafs 2nd round playoff series. Unbelievable that they didn't get it done. Again. Unbelievable sad. Bye.

I want to quit as a fan of the Leafs but I just can't.

But I will manage my expectation for the current core. Unless significant changes are made (like the way the Leafs back then traded a former-50 goal scorer for Gilmour), the team will not have any playoff success.

I just don’t see what can get me excited about this team and current core anymore. We could win the president trophy next year, have like 65 wins and I still wouldn’t be excited for playoffs cause I know we’ll still blow it at this point.

I wouldn’t say I’ll stop being a fan and cheer for a different team, I just don’t care anymore like I used to after this series. I’ll probably have that same feeling until they fire Dubos and Keefe and trade a few core guys(looking at you Mitch). Until then, this team doesn’t deserve my time and money anymore. I can do better things with my life then devote all this time for failure which I have zero control over.

Either trade a CORE player, or win a playoffs series.

Until one of those two things happens, I'm strongly considering just tuning out from now on.

This is same core that lost to a Zamboni driver. Changing the depth pieces isn't the solution. Our goaltending, team defence, and secondary scoring were all good enough to win that playoff series. 22.5M combining for 1 goal through 7 games was the problem.

I've been following the Leafs since the Sundin days. I remember Paul Maurice and getting Ron Wilson. I remember the Phaneuf/Kessel days, the Grabovski/Kulemin period, losing horrendously to Boston when up 4-1. Watching Boston draft Seguin and then Hamilton back to back. Finding Bozak as a "wallet". The Capitals series, the embarrassing Columbus series.

The one thing that has remained consistent throughout all this is that this is a team that cannot handle any pressure. They just completely fall apart and disappear. It's one thing to get routed by stacked teams that eventually go on to win the cup, but to lose the way they do, to the teams they do, just makes me feel like a moron for watching the same thing year on end with zero change.

I watch a lot of hockey, and probably the only other organization as disappointing as this one is Edmonton.

What's even funnier in all of this, you have primma donnas paid mega bucks to just disappear. You gotta draw the line somewhere and this is where it would be for me. Doubt I'll ever tune in to anything Maple Leafs barring a loss tomorrow.

I’m sure a lot of us grew up in the Gilmour and Sundin era, which were very likeable teams. This team just doesn’t have have that same appeal to me. I’m waiting for them to change my mind, but the lacklustre playoffs performances are stacking up.

I can honestly say I’ll be a little less invested in the regular season next year

People are ripping this person, but it's true. This useless franchise doesn't deserve a single fan. Loyalty is earned, and they haven't done it.

Do something with your lives. Play a sport IRL. Learn a hobby. Write a book. Stop caring about a bunch of millionaires who don't even know your name and laugh their way to the golf course.

Were you not entertained by their regular season? It was spectacular.
Were you not entertained by the 7 game series?
Did the team spend to the cap?
Acquire trade deadline pieces?

They have my loyalty. TTFN to those who choose to quit following.

I actually feel good this morning, not anxious anymore, more chill. Disappointed, but still a fan. I hope this emberassing loss is a one step back two steps forward kinda thing. Something good shall happen with this rock bottom scenario.... Right? Right?!

It'll be an interesting off season that's for sure.
