I'll push this even further: if TBay doesn't get lucky cap wise, there's no way they can ice a third line of Coleman - Gourde - Goodrow and therefore can't beat us like they did with overloading our third line. Their cap structure was absurd, while legal.

The Islanders also took Tampa Bay to 7 games in the semi finals. And the Habs might have fared better against the Islanders.

Winning the cup, the Connie-Smythe goes to Price. That would make him de-facto a candidate for retired number. I still think he has chances to see him number retired.

He was absolutely our best dman in that playoff run.
That’s ok for those who think so. I thought Petry was more valuable that run.

Had we won the cup, Weber wasn’t going to get a sniff at the Conn Smythe. Certainly wouldn’t get his jersey retired.

I mean, even if we somehow won a cup this year and next, Gallagher wouldn’t get his jersey retired either.

Missing option: no one

Weber?

Why is Price held to such high standards? Just because he was the only one who was playing elite shouldn't be a reason to change our traditions for 1 player. He also had his best years with Subban who was the best D we had the last 30 years.

No player should be above the logo, only mega corporations are aloud to be put above the logo given they bribe the owner enough money.
I really don't understand your post. Are you saying we shouldn't retire numbers? Weird comment

Obviously his jersey wouldn't get retired but he was better than Petry imo who was good but definitely regressed after the injury as he could barely shoot the puck and was more tentative when challenged. Whether you believe Weber was our best dman or not it can not be argued that he was not one of the best dmen in the entire playoffs let alone just Montreal. Price would have obviously won the Conn Smythe but that would not diminish Weber's greatness just as Roy's Conn Smythe's did not diminish Robinson's, Chelios' or Desjardins great performances in '86 and/or '93.

? im saying Price did not do anything that deserves a habs jersey retirement given the habs standards for a jersey retirement.

The last part was a comment highliting the irony of Geoff selling out the habs jersey to mega corporations and putting them above the habs logo.

Not sure about peak, 08-09 Markov was a beast.

Markov never took over 1st D man duty as a 20 years old rookie. Markov in fact was pretty mediocre for the first few years.

Subban won a norris and was a nominee for one more year

Markov nothing

Longevity does not beat quality

No. It was Petry.

Maybe prior to the injury but Weber was much better against Vegas and Tampa and overall was the leader and set the identity of our defence. Petry made a gutsy return but was not very good from that point on. Weber was a beast from start to finish and broke the will of our opponents in the first 3 series along with Edmundson and Chiarot.

Winining in 2021 wouldn't change anything. Price and Weber should both be in when trash like Andreychuk is in.

Lol... Subban was done by the time he was 30.
Markov played until he was 37 and was constantly better than Weber.

When the 2 had a similar peak, longevity does matter.

Try again.

Oof. How many individuals awards outside of the team ones he had no control over did he have to win to make his case? He was even Canadian athlete of the year. Lol

Why din't he win a norris then? or even get nominated once?

and why they din't even give him the respect to complete his 1000 games playing career?

Are you just a hater? Subban was 1 notch above markov at any given point, he could make his own plays, pass the puck and score his own goals and defensively he was effective at defending, keeping the crease clear and throw hard hits.

Prime Markov lasted maybe 2-3 years, Prime Subban lastest for 6-7 years (including his time with Nash)

Ultimately both of Subban and Markov would have been hall of famers had they had better health. Markov lost three prime years due to that little POS Grabovsky (worst Habs' acquisition ever), and Subban lost five or six prime years because he didn't train properly, he became slow, he was focused on being a celebrity, etc.

and why they din't even give him the respect to complete his 1000 games playing career?

He poured gallons of ice cold water onto his neck.

I think this was PK's dumbest idea ever. He did train well but this... this screwed his back/neck.. what was the injury that knocked him out in 2016? Neck injury..
