If Patrick Kane was Canadian, Swedish or Russian he'd get more respect

Kane gets the amount of respect he deserves. There's no anti-American bias keeping him down.

Exactly, his personality or history might turn some people off but his nationality has nothing to do with it, boy do people like to make things a bigger deal than it is.

It's like those media outlets who point to racism every chance they get.

WTF?

Kane gets plenty of respect. He's routinely cited as one of the top wingers in the game.

Idk if you're an American who is upset, a Hawks fan who is upset, or both, but seriously, Kane gets just as much respect as he deserves.

If Patrick Kane's last name was Kaneau, Kanesov or Kaneberg and he wasn't American, he'd probably be considered a top 3 NHL player, and maybe even the best right now.

Very under appreciated.

Not true because I don't respect Russians:sarcasm: In all seriousness he gets the respect he deserves.

I think whoever you're hanging out isn't representative of the larger hockey population.

More like Kanov or Kansberg IMO. But I disagree with OP. Kane gets the respect he deserves. If anything, his off-ice antics were what turned him off amongst fans.

Anyone who knows anything about hockey knows that not only does Kansberg have the smoothest hands in hockey, he's also second to none at gaining entry into the offensive zone.

I personally would put him second to Backstrom at controlling the pace of the play, as well ( In the neutral zone)... to think of it, he might even be better than Backie in that facet of the play. It's close.

Only once Don Cherry wears a suit with dozens of Pat Kane heads on the blazer will I think Pat Kane gets the respect he deserves.

Kane isn't even an assistant on Chicago right?

Chicago has a bunch of leadership but for as good of a player as he is I think it's pretty clear he isn't one of those vocal off-ice leaders.

If his name was Patrick Kanesov he would have never been drafted by Hawks

1st round Russians/Ukrainians never worked out for Hawks. JVR would have probably been selected 1st overall

The lack of respect he gets has nothing to do with his nationality. It's him beating up cab drivers over pocket change and being a cocky jerk.

Meh , he doesn't come across nearly as obnoxious as he used to. Seems like a good dude.

Umm... If he never *****-slapped a cabbie, or been publicly obliterated he'd have a little more respect.

But as it stands I think he gets plenty. Damn good hockey player.

Love that people always bring the cab incident up. He was what like 18, 19 and did something stupid? He's matured and it shows. Hardest working guy on the Hawks. Always last off the ice during practices. Always putting in the time and work.
