If Patrick Kane was Canadian, Swedish or Russian he'd get more respect

If Patrick Kane's last name was Kaneau, Kanesov or Kaneberg and he wasn't American, he'd probably be considered a top 3 NHL player, and maybe even the best right now.

Very under appreciated.

I really have a hard time believing that anyone in hockey would get more respect if they were Russian. No offense to the Russian players, but a lot of people have some pretty negative stereotypes of eastern European players.

Ah yes, when will this persecution of Americans ever stop. :sarcasm:

Fact is, Kane currently simply doesn't have the individual resume to be considered a top 3 player. You'll see a big change in how he's perceived if he wins the art ross I'll bet.

Russian, like Ovechkin who had no trade value last year and was considered worse player than Pavelski or Hall by some people.

Yes, being Russian sure gives you respect you deserve.

Kane is fairly respected and well known talent, quit acting like hes not.

OP makes crazy claim, doesn't even bother to spend 1 minute to put up an argument to support it, other than saying race.

The GMs in the NHL have Toews has the #2 player in the NHL. It was around the beginning of the season or something like that.

Patrick Kane is a great player but he'll never have my respect, and not because he's American. I can't respect someone who beats a person up over incorrect change. The fact that he's a multimillionaire is just icing on the cake. That's just me though.

I admire what he does on the ice, but even if he were on my team I'd find it hard to cheer for him.

Talking specifically about nationality, he's already been in best ever out of USA discussions, so yeah that's uber respect.

Yeah I'll second that. Add in his frat boy antics and reputation as a cocky jerk from his home area, and respect isn't the word that comes to mind.

Somehow I doubt that
