@DesertedPenguin I will add that Rust, Kuhnhackl, Archibald, and Wilson weren’t breaking down the door either. But they brought energy and a game or two was warranted. They got at least that.

You can’t really say what most of the kids are in Wbs because for one, the coach down there really isn’t getting the most out of them, wbs used to be a coveted job as it was a stepping stone into the nhl for a lot of coaches but now? They’ve basically had two coaches after the assault douche, that barely had any legit head coaching experience. I think Forrest is great at coaching the D. But he’s not the coach I would have there at all and I think they’ve had a hard time trying to find someone and have just stuck with what they knew already.

The gripes about Puustinen by sully was he needed to work on his 2way game last year, yet we saw a player that looked strong at both ends and created a goal only to never play another game for the Pens again. Doc at this point is a veteran to Sully.

The Rangers also figured out the pens. They were brats that easily retaliated and were very easily goaded into the run and gun game where the Rangers f***ed them and then some with physicality.

Isles were also physical and took it to them.
Caps did too with Trotz.

Under Sully they retreat and retaliate and he refuses to change anything.
Man, the Rangers star players, to a man, took like 5 of the 7 games of that series off and this dogshit team still couldn't wrap up a 3-1 series lead and put the nail in the coffin. I don't give a f*** about Domingue or Trouba's shot at Sid--nobody on this team could've stepped up? The PK alone had a huge hand in sinking that ship with like 5 PP goals against in the final 3 games of the series or something.

I figured the window was real close to slamming shut when the Isles swept the Pens and JR was in full batshit, Yosemite Sam mode. I thought it was pretty much closed when Sully rode JJ-Schultz into the ground and Sid/Jake/Rust all no-showed again in the Habs series. Ditto for the next Isles series, but I cannot be convinced this team has even the slightest shot anymore after the Rangers series and the past 2 years of Sully/Hextall. None.

I’m confused why you’ve brought up Karlsson’s goal being Poehling’s fault multiple times.

Karlsson was Heinen’s man in that sequence and our D completely sold out and let Karlsson walk in.

You can even see Letang tell Heinen to cover Karlsson in the clip.

Not that it matters, but it was Pettersson who told him.

That's a mistake on my part. I thought it was Poehling. It was Heinen.

Just realized that DOC gets more ice time than anyone from WBS because he went to college in New England.

Also if you google search him, it says he grew up in The Chathams, New Zealand. Instead of Chathams, New Jersey

Yes

Asking Blueger to convert that isn't an empty net or one on one with the goalie by himself is asking for a miracle when it matters.

Oh word. I thought Letang instinctively blew his cover and drifted over to his side for no reason allowing a back door chance because I’m so used to it, but you are right. That was Petts.

Blueger had a one on one with the goalie tonight and failed gloriously. My favorite part was how if he just won a battle he probably scores but Meier sealed him off.

They got opportunities largely due to injuries. But they also did something with their minutes when they arrived.

That said, they were all producing at WBS.

Sheary had 45 points in 58 games in his first full season in WBS. The next year he had 36 points in 30 games before getting the call.

Rust had 27 in 43, got a cup of coffee under Mike Johnston due to injuries, went back down and had 6 in 16 before getting called back up again to play on the fourth line.

Kuhnhackl had 15 points in 23 games after spending a couple years in the minors before getting called up.

Wilson had 22 goals and 36 points in 34 games before getting called up. People were begging for him.

And all of these guys, except Sheary, were killing penalties in the AHL.

Puustinen has been solid offensively - 34 points in 41 games this year. I'd be fine with him getting a shot on the third line instead of Heinen. But he's 5'9, 180. Nylander is 6'1, but he's still floating defensively. It's what curtailed his shot in Buffalo and in Chicago. How bad of an overall player do you have to be if the Blackhawks don't want you?

Hallander is hurt and has been pretty vanilla when he's been up. And I'm not sold on Gruden. He was way out of sorts on the PK in the limited chances he had.

No one is seizing the moment. Yeah, they get 8-10 minutes to start. That sucks. But do something with those 8-10 minutes. Show some awareness and energy and fly around.

All Blueger had to do was lift the puck 13"/15" and he had a goal. That's not his forte that tight in. Even his weak short handed goals were of the lazy just trickle in through the 5 hole. I think I've seen him score 2/3 goals worthy from in the hashmarks. That's it. He's not that skilled or gifted to be a regular goal scorer.

For what it's worth, Crosby said it's not the system after the game, according to Yohe.

“No,” Crosby said. “We have to execute. That’s what it comes down to. It’s not Xs and Os. It’s not the system. We are making mistakes that are going to cost you.”

This organization just pissed away the last five years on Sully and two on Hextall.

We are a clown show - truly embarrassing.

Why do these fools still have jobs?

Minny beats Sabres, Pens remain in a WC spot until atleast Feb 1st.
Imagine how good Minnesota could be for the foreseeable future if they still had Fiala on that team and Guerin didn't machismo himself into having $14 million in dead cap space for years.

It's both coaching *and* roster composition. Both are complete dogshit.

I know everyone hates Rondu and Rondu created the "EvgeniMinusApologist" alt...

But Minuses really follow Malkin around and have since COVID, really. The turnover that lead to the, whatever goal it was - that was pointless. Really stupid.

This is my thing about stars these days. Stars take chances. If chances don't pan out, they hurt you. Therefore, if the stars aren't converting on their chances they aren't really helping.

Fiala had multiple chances to be an impact player for them in the playoffs. Letting him walk was the right move. Minnesota has navigated the Suter and Parise buyouts superbly and honestly if we would’ve let Guerin take over for JR we’d likely be in a much better place.

Guerin’s moves don’t always make sense, but in the large scheme of things he has a plan and an identity for his team.
