7 × 7.

He signs on the east coast with either Boston or NYR IMO. The Devils could also be an option.

I don't know if Boston will have the room to sign him, sure they have only 53 million committed to the cap but they also have to sign Marchand and Pasta and that's going to bite into their cap space

Spooner also needs a deal although that won't be as expensive

Me to man and I wouldn't be surprised to see an offer made the Leafs have. Ton of cap space coming off the books next year and I think he would be a perfect fit beside Reilly

Failing that I would also push for Alzner

Yep. We need RHD under 30 so bad it's painful, especially guys that can get the puck to our young forwards in all situations.

If Shattenkirk makes it to UFA I'd be absolutely floored if we don't go after him like a starved wolverine. Not sure he'd be interested in playing here but boy would he fill a need.

I think we could interest him if Guys like Mathews, Marner and Nylsnder play the way they are expected to.t

I think we have some good building. blocks up front and I think we have a fantastic goalie I am a HUGE fan of Andersen I think our goaltending is solved .

So it depends on how Mathews and Nylander and Marner play up front, if they meet expectations and it becomes clear we are on the right path then ya I think we can attract a player like him.

If Not then no

I doubt he gets less than 8m per. Too many teams need skilled RHD and will bid against each other to bring the price up. Just look at all the Shatty trade threads were most fan bases come with the "We will just wait and sign him in free agency and not lose prospects" His agent will most likely field calls from at least 1/3 of the league.

I believe 2/3 of the league would at least call to ask for the price and half of the league would consider making an offer.

A top pairing RD for no more than $$, no assets involved? That's enticing. He will get paid big time.

I think he gets more, how much? Not sure.
Next season with the expansion draft, teams are going to loose some good players and UFA will fill some of those spots. If you are a UFA next July 1st you will get paid more then normal due to supply and demand.
I would also think a team like Vegas is going to offer popular players larger then expected $$$ to play for them.

How many other RHD are available in free agency this year? That will definitely effect his asking price.

It all depends on how he performs this season. As a UFA he'll get way more than he's worth...especially with teams like Vegas coming into the fray looking to spend money. I could see Vegas throwing 8+ million at him.

Why do people keep saying Barrie and Shatty are top pairing defensemen? They aren't, not on a cup caliber team at least. They're amazing #3s, but I think it speaks volumes that Parayko got more responsbility most nights than Shattenkirk in the playoffs.

With that being said, there's no way Shatty signs for under 7 mil. Most likely will be looking at 7 x 7.5-8 mil contract if he hits UFA.

You think Barrie and Shattenkirk aren't within the best 60 defensemen in the NHL?

How many teams even have two better defensemen than them?

bingo. I suspect the Oilers will offer that. It's got to stay under 7. We'd probably give a NMC on top. This is assuming we are still starving for OFD (which is likely)

He doesn't want to be in Western Canada I thought?

He'll end up in the East. NYR, TOR, BOS make sense, depending on cap space. BUF maybe, depending on cap space as well.

He is not worth that contract, I'd offer that kind of $ to Burns, not to Shattenkirk.

Think Yandle deal plus a bit more. It'll be max years with Yandles dollar amount as the floor of what he would sign. Dude is a legit #1 on pretty much any team, and is a righty... He is going to flat out get paid.

7 years, $6.875M/year.

I'd put my money on him signing with the Rangers.

Agreed. Burns deserves more than Shattenkirk.

I hear the Rangers all the time but how? they have over 62 million committed to next season and that does not include Zbanejad

They always find a way to dump a contract. I'm not putting it past them.

I know but they don't exactly have a ton of good youth they can attach to a Giardia or Staal to make them attractive

They don't exactly have a Lawson Crouse to spare or TT like Chicago did.

They're both top 60 defensemen, but that doesn't mean they're going to be playing on the top pairing. It's no different than having Kane and Toews on a different line, even though those are Chicago's best forwards Kane plays on the 2nd line; they have different responsibilities. Same goes for Barrie and Shatty, you don't want them out there facing top competition for the full game and getting a bunch of defensive zone starts. It wouldn't be a stretch to say there's 60 better defenseman who are better than them defensively.
