Post-Game Talk: I Will Have The Soup With That Win

Leafs were the better team in this one by a good margin.

But still, we lose this one with Fred in net. And maybe by a lot.

Campbell didn't steal anything, but he did win a goaltending battle against the best goalie in the league.

To me it felt like Leafs struggled in their own zone and were hemmed in 40% of the time while hemming in Jets maybe 20% of the time. Perhaps I was salty the rest of the game after the first where it felt particularly bad.

Looking at HDCF and xG tells a much different story. Looking at SCF% says it leaned toward Jets. I know Keefe cares more about chances and not so much HDCF.

Either way it's definitely a game we lose with Andersen in net.

Campbell is a good veteran goaltender.
One reason everyone thinks he’s great is because we are comparing him to Andersen.

The good news about our PP is that it cannot remain this bad for so long. Much like our goaltending, it will bounce back. My god it's bad right now though, complete clock killer. Just need a Matthews ripper to get the monkey off their backs and they'll settle down. I'll celebrate the day they stop that f***ing drop pass though.

If we just had an average power play recently, our recent wins would have been far less stressful for sure.

Hopefully we can clean that up soon.

Ummm, why exactly are people saying Campbell stole the game? Played awesome, but the Leafs outplayed the Jets. Again.

Remarkable how far we're going thanks to some very nice goaltending and excellent 5 on 5 play. Managing to survive our PP being utterly unable to score. If we can just figure that out then things would look really nice.

But getting wins and I'll definitely take that. Getting back to a solid position after sliding over much of March.

The word we need to use for Campbell tonight is “Outdueled.” Hellebuyck was great for the Jets but unlike a couple of weeks ago our goaltending was able to keep up and we won.

Campbell played amazing, like he always does. Hopefully he can stay healthy, because we need him. Anderson is done as the starter as long as Campbell is healthy.

I don't feel like we're playing our best hockey right now though. We're not creating enough high quality scoring chances. We're giving the puck away too much. Our 2nd line was absolute crap most of the game. With that said, if we can play B level hockey and still win, that's very promising.

What a terrific game by Campbell. That’s the type of goaltending we haven’t had since Belfour or Joseph was in net.

Hyman is a special player. Lucky to have Brodie and Bogo, great games by them. The dmen were overall solid. Spezza is a beaut.

On the negative side, PP is just awful. Just put out the entire line with 2 D or load up with 5 forwards. Simmonds and Thornton offering nothing. Rielly causing another 2 on 1 against for a goal.

The other guy usually doesn't outperform his xGA on a nightly basis. Also, the all situation xGA is 2.36, which is actually indicative of above average play. Only issue being the sample size was a game and the defense was doing a job minimizing secondary chances and cross ice puck movement. Almost like the cliche - keeping the puck to the outside. Almost.

people are so used to the Leafs making Winnipeg look like an ECHL team, so the perception is a bit skewed. It looks like a dominant performance for them if they manage two good shifts in the same period

not quite as impressive as the Rap's win but seeing both our boys take the W is makes it a real 'good' friday

The Good: Spezza! historic game, Jack was some spicy Gazpacho too hot for the Jets to handle. Willie Ny good, maybe great except when he wasn't. Galchenyuk keeps looking better and when the dam breaks it'll break big. Buster and the M's what a dominant performance Hellebuyck unfortunately was up to the task.

The Bad: Sorry Jumbo, maybe bad is too critical, but it doesn't look like you have it anymore, maybe it's Nicky's time. Willie Ny good, maybe great except when he was just bad and looking like he really wanted a seat.

The Ugly: "You're F*****g horrible!" again and again and again how many more times NHL before somebody gets really hurt. Cross check directly below the numbers 3 feet from the boards is not a F*****g hockey play, it's never been a hockey play, it will never be a hockey play. Will it take somebody losing their career and suing you for a cool 1B$ to make you sit up and take notice?

There's no denying he had a bad game, emphasized by many of his passes being blocked and going the other way but there were some good things too:

Agreed.

Nylander had a trash game but could have easily had 3 assists and we win 4-1 in spite of it. Gotta leave the guy alone when he has his bad moments and just keep rolling your skill guys.
