I was NOT a believer but Cole Caufield is the BEST Player from the 2019 Draft.

But should have? Yes, that one.
Nope, because he’s a small winger not built for games like that because he can only realistically contribute on the PP and the Americans already had plenty of talent to do that, and those players are more talented, and bigger.

America built a solid roster, they lost in OT. It was close.

And Hughes contributed... nothing.

Anyway...

This is NOT about Hughes. I left him off the list because, given his performance at the 4NC and the fact that he is getting seriously hurt annually, I'm not sure how long he will be around.

Dude looked up the 2019 draft scrolled so far down trying to make a point and forgot Hughes.

Also career high 65 points lol

Disagree heavily. Seider is way more important and better than Caufield and Hughes is better by a good bit as well. Boldy may also be better as well.

I was NOT a believer (and, as a Leaf fan, a HATER) but Cole Caufield is the BEST Player from the 2019 Draft...

Cole Caufield
Moritz Seider
Matt Boldy
Thomas Harley
Connor McMichael
Bowen Byram
Dylan Cozens
Jackson LaCombe
Shane Pinto
Jordan Spence

(* NO idea where to put the always hurt Jack Hughes. *)

And, as the Habs fans will quickly say, "Caufield fell right into our lap!" :thumbd:

Feel free to tell me how bad my list is and remind me of players I forgot.

Hughes is a clear number 1, Caufield is in the conversation for number 2 alongside a handful of others imo.

I do think it's worth talking about though if Caufield is the most elusive player in the NHL. The kid has a unique talent for losing his coverage, for slipping through unnoticed to parts of the ice he wants to be in. I can think of other players who are great at it, I can't think of any who are better than him at it.

As I noted in the O.P., because of ALWAYS being hurt and being a NO SHOW at the 4NC, I have NO idea where to put him.

Why does anyone care about the 4NC? It blows my mind. The tournament didn't exist a year ago and 4 teams were a part of it. This isn't the Olympics and we're supposedly fans of the NHL. Who the f*** cares about that tournament when grading players? It's a complete non-entity.

Hughes laps Caufields best season in half of the season.

Caufield is a good player and goes top-10 in a redraft but is not the best player from the draft. I have him at 6 and most rational people will have him from 4-6.

I think it was a great tournament. But the stock lost and gained by players during it has been incredibly overstated. Kyle Connor also looked awful and he’s a fantastic player. Brady tkachuk (as good as he is) has people talking like it’s a 2nd shot at Lindros. It’s hyperbolic

^^ I agree with that. ^^

For the record, I am NOT a Caufield fan. I want him to fail but he amazes me. He gets open, scores and I yell at the opposing players asking, "How did you let that little <bleep> get so open?".

Still miffed that Coyote child GM Chayka traded UP in the draft to select Soderstom instead of Caulfield (the one guy that the analytics "genius" should have wanted).

That said, I would take Hughes, Seider, Boldy, Harley, and Zegras ahead of him.

Great pick though.
Zegras are you kidding me? Lol

As a Habs fan I love Cole, he's by far the best goalscorer we've had since prime Pacioretty and we'd be a much worse team without him, but I'd still trade him for Hughes in a heartbeat.

I wouldn't put him above Hughes and I'd take Boldy and Seider over him but he's a dynamic player at 5v5 and play bigger than he is, he's been quite underrated so far in his career
