I was NOT a believer but Cole Caufield is the BEST Player from the 2019 Draft.

I think Lacombe is a great player. But there are levels in this. Lacombe has never been nor will ever be on Caufield's level.
#1 D is more valuable than a small top line winger.

Yeah, there are levels to this, and you don’t understand them lol.

Don’t worry, as the narrative starts to pick up about LaCombe, your opinion will follow. He’s right on Thomas Harley’s level.

That's totally fine.

The issue I have with your posts are

1. The assumption that he can't score in the playoffs.
2. The argument that him not being selected by Team USA validates that he isn't that good a player.

1 is demonstrably false. Even in limited playing time CC played extremely well in the postseason run under a very bad coach.

And 2 is undercut by the fact that Team USA lost the series and couldn't score. Again, it doesn't mean that adding him would've won them the tourney, but the loss certainly suggests that Team USA could've used some more goalscoring.
I never said Caufield wasn’t a good player, in my opinion he is too small to make an impact for a Stanley cup winning team come playoff time. He’s going to get his goals/points in the regular season, and will finish with a good stat line. But he’ll never be able to be a key piece to a Stanley cup contender. I don’t want a player like that on my team, especially not over guys like LaCombe/Seider/Hughes/Harley and Boldy.

Team USA lost because of Jordan Binnington standing on his head when it mattered. They were the better team in the tournament but they didn’t win. It happens in sports. A Cole Caufield wouldn’t have helped them.

Caufield already had 12 points in 20 playoff games as a rookie coming straight in from the NCAA. It's OK though just keep doubting him.

You’re taliking in certainies here but you don’t know this. And it goes against what we saw as a rookie call up. He played very well in limited minutes.

That’s cool. And those players may well be better at the end of the day. But I think CC is a lot better than you do and I think we’ve yet to see the best of him as well.

I could well be overrating his potential, entirely possible. But he’s paced at 40+ when healthy under MSL. I think he can probably get to another level. We’ll see.

They lost because they couldn’t score. Period.

Would Caufield have fixed that? Impossible to say but I’m sure the US would love to have had him now that we know the final result.

I have Caufield 4th after Boldy/Seider/Hughes.

I agree that Hughes is completely unreliable and borderline broken and may fall off the list depending on his injury woes.

I like Caulfield and think he’s lived up to his hype but Jack Hughes is a stud if he can stay healthy. Hard to blame him on this one, slamming into the boards leads to the injury he has for a lot of players.

If Hughes can’t stay healthy Cole has a shot at it.

I would trade at least 1 and a half Caufields for Hughes or Seider but yes very happy to have him and relative to where he was picked it might be the best value from that draft

He is NOT the best player in the 2019 draft. He’d probably slot around 6th/7th and move up quite significantly, though,

I think once you get to #4 you start to get into pretty strong personal preference territory

1. Hughes
2. Seider
3.Boldy
4/5/6 caufield/harley/wolf
I think based on what they've done, this is the right ranking. But I think Caufield is going to surprise some people. Again, I may be overrating him. But his performance has flown under the radar for a few reasons.

1. In his rookie year, he spends half the season behind a moron coach.
2. His next 82 games he scores 48 goals. But... it's split across two seasons so people don't really notice.
3. He gets hurt, interrupting a great year on a dreadful team. The following year his shooting percentage is under 10 due to a bum shoulder.

The potential for a 50 goal scorer is there. It's by no means a guarantee that he gets there but he's really, really good. It won't surprise me in the least if by the end of it all that he's the 2nd best player in that draft.

All that being said, I have zero issues with the ranking you have there. I suspect most would have it that way right now. But I think within a few years, the list will look very different.

We shall see.
