That narrative is so stupid. Are they winning right now with Igor in net while actually trying to win?

They won't win with him in net if they do a full on tank. It's a non-issue.
So why not trade him for assets instead of overpaying him to lose 40 games a year for the foreseeable future? We could've paid someone the league minimum to put up similar numbers.

Igor will look awesome if we ever invest in real D-Men. We literally don't have a single, legitimate defender on the team right now.

That's my point. Goaltending is a part of team defense. You ice this circus act in front of Igor and you'll have no issues tanking.

People think the contract is going to strangle us. It literally won't. Igor has proven he can't steal games on his own on a regular basis.

I was and still am in the camp of trading him. I'm just saying that his contract won't affect the future of this team in any meaningful way if we decide to go the route of the tank

You're inadvertanty stating he should not be getting paid as the highest paid goalie.

If he's not going to steal games (And this season, he hasn't), then why give him those terms to begin with? Why make it unmovable like Mika's contract?!

THEN WHY ARE THEY ON THE TEAM? Kreider, fine. That's fair.

But who extended Zibanejad and gave him a NMC? Who re-signed Lindgren when it was obvious he was slowing down?

The team will have the exact same issues with Fox and Igor before too long.

Chytil is a fine depth C but he is nowhere near a real 1C. On top of that he is one hit from being punted back to Europe. Trocheck is declining almost as fast as Mika. This team needs two or three real C down the middle in the worst way. One option is to find a gem in next summers draft but that kid will still be 4-5 years away. Or, more realistically, start trading some crown jewels like Panarin/Fox/Igor/Laffy, maybe even everybody's favourite Cuylle. The Rangers need a real spine but getting one is going to cost serious ammo. Going the UFA route is just more of the same old failed recipe.

They also were not good the year before last. They pretty much sucked. The first ECF run was pure luck against a minor league goalie (Domingue) and then a backup goalie. They don't get past round 1 if Jarry and Crosby don't get hurt.
That was two years before last. But you're otherwise correct.

The year before last was a 1st round exit vs the Devils.
