I talked to a person today who actually thinks that climate change is a hoax and that if we just let all the factories pump all the stuff into the air, then it would help the trees grow better and faster and help the planet because trees eat CO2, see.

**** it, let the monkeys take over, they couldn't do any worse at this point

That sounds like the kind of person who would say university is useless and that the best education is life experience.

What's shocking is that this was an actual real-life, in-person scenario. I expect people to say that kind of dumb **** on the internet but here's this dude just making a total ass of himself in a room of 20 people he has to work with every day, all looking at him incredulously.

Besides ignorance isn't a problem but so many react negatively to trying to educating them. I'm not a mechanic but I understand to a degree how cars work though I'll flat out say there are things I will not and am not competent to be doing.

Typical home office stuff, nothing fancy. My current desktop is a Compaq that I bought in 2010, 3 gb ram and 2.75 ghz and it does everything I need just fine. Or at least it did, until it blew up on me a couple days ago.
I mean if you don't run anything powerful this should be fine for you, maybe I would look for something similar, but with a newer generation processor like @Tryamw said. 8 gigs of RAM is very good if you intend to open multiple tabs on Google Chrome and use them without lag.

So like, what's the thing to look for, what denotes a newer processor. I just don't speak the computer language well enough to know what to look for.

I basically just thought, "Hey my work laptop works great and is really fast," then looked at the specs for that which is 2.80 ghz, 8 gb ram. It has a solid-state hard drive though.

It would be nice to be able to stream HD video now and again.

It'll do the job. But I'd look for something no older then the 4000 series chip (FYI the 5th gen basically doesn't exist in desktops but there are 2 sets of the 4th gen.)
I still use my 2nd gen as my secondary rig and only replaced it due to the fact the hardware was 5 years old. (I start to expect problems at that age range. )

In the Intel i series chips I3 i5 i7 are classes (Bigger is better) (this is for desktop chips)
i3 Dual core w/ Hyper threading
i5 Quad core
i7 Quad w/ Hyper threading
The quartet (In your case 2100) Denotes second gen (if it only has 3 numbers assume a 1 in front)
6100 (For e.g.) would be worse then a 6200 or 6250. (But the Why can get complicated.)

And Notebook chips don't compare with the desktop chips on the whole. (Very different numbers between and for this useless to know)

Ah, I get it now. Thanks. I'll start paying more attention to that 4-digit number then.
