I know that the season is very young but according to you, what are the known and observable weaknesses of your current team on the ice?

From this Leafs fan I would say our weaknesses are our discipline. We’re taking wayyyy too many penalties so far. Benoit has taken 4 or 5 penalties in 3 games. Our strengths so far have been our defence/system/structure and our goaltending. Leafs are really deep in net once Woll gets healthy.

Our PP is dog shit again however. As much fire power as the Leafs have I have no idea why year after year they struggle for large portions of the year with the man advantage

Jack Hughes has been noticeably awful. The D could use Luke and Pesce back. I don’t think it’s a coincidence the one game they dominated start to finish was the only game Jack showed up for. Once that stuff sorts itself out things *should* all fall into place.

Seems like depth is a common complaint in this thread...... and there are more teams coming in this league
Good. Fourth liners of today are probably at the skill/technique level of second or third liners from fifty years ago. Goaltenders are so much better.

I hope you realize that there's a lot more countries producing NHL-level players today than back then. The number of good players is astronomical compared to old times. More teams will be great.

As for the Habs weaknesses... their D is still average, they continue to be beaten regularly shot-wise, and they need even more skills up front.

For the Leafs, we're basically too sexy and have too much swagger, it's not fair being this kawaii and tsundure :3 uWu

Jets ruining good chances by over passing and the second line is more like a good third line but other than that every part of this teams game has been good thus far. Special teams look lethal this year

I think it's unfair to Bedard to suggest TT is your only first liner.
Oh so hilarious. I guess you must have missed the last couple years from tuevo. He is about to put up some first line stats this year though with the opportunity he has.

PK is the obvious choice for MN. No improvement from last year, when it was also putrid.

Dude has worked more than hard enough to this point, only way for him to go is up and the opportunity is going to blow the minds of alot of people here when he hits.

How much time do you have to read? Granted, the Ducks got a raw deal having 8 days between their last preseason game and their season opener and had to play a back to back immediately.

Anaheim:

Killorn is playing below replacement level hockey. There's rust and there's being functionally incapable of doing more than converting on 2-4 foot passes with no pressure. He's on a line with Carlsson and Gauthier to give them vet presence/mentorship but what he's giving is absolutely destroying the line's ability to get any kind of flow going when possessing the puck.

McTavish looks like he's playing on pure instinct. He doesn't think before he passes or shoots, he doesn't seem to think before he tries dekeing through traffic and he can't win faceoffs or defend. He's actively holding his line (with Zegras and Fabbri) back.

Vatrano and Strome look ineffective and behind the play. The defense is playing with better structure, but generally their activations from the defensive zone to start transition play have been poor. Wouldn't say bad zone exits, just a lot of zone clears on failed stretch passes. Fowler in particular looks like he doesn't know what to do with the puck anymore.

The team in general seems to struggle with fundamental elements of the game like execution of passing and shot selection. Not counting an empty net goal, they have two goals in two games and really struggled to create quality chances. The team looks slightly better at winning battles for loose pucks and along the boards, but the insistence on playing dump and chase for the umpteenth year is not working at all.

Vegas:

They're fine. A little too methodical in their offensive approach that leads to potential quality chances being passed up but it's hard to complain about 3-0-0

Kings are going to be on the PK at least 5 times a game.
Kings are losing all their OT games so thankfully there won't be any shootouts this year.
