I don't think losing to the USA would be a catastrophe. Sure, Finland is the favourite right now but it's not like we have a stacked team that has to win a medal or heads will roll. Team Finland already surpassed my expectations and any further success will just be icing on the cake.
Agreed. I don't think it would be a disaster if the US won the game. It would be a big disappointment for sure, but I think we should be proud of our team that they have managed to win the group without the best players on the team.

My favorite part? How you edited out anything "bad" that Finland may have done, but left the part about the US doing anything to medal. :shakehead
Yeah, I thought that was pretty obnoxious also. Fits right in around here though!

USA is gonna drop Finland. Czech played like crap against Finland after Mrs. Jagr went down, Canada's game is totally off balance as shown by a loss to Swiss and Finns. IMO Finland team is overrated with these wins not to mention IMO it hurts the team more that they win now. There gonna have pressure by media and fans that now believe they'll win the whole tourney and they dont cope well with pressure. Team Finland does there best when there the underdogs.

Boy, talk about taking a comment out on context. Some Finn with mediocre english says he hates the U.S hockey team and you interpet it as "death to America" :dunno: Can you say paranoid????

Ville Peltonen has done quite a bit more for Finland than scoring one hat-trick. He's on his way to becoming a top 3 Finnish scorer in international competitions (World Championships, Olympic Games, Canada/World Cups) ever. The other two shall be some guys named Teemu Selänne and Saku Koivu.

Ville Peltonen: the most overrated player in the history of Finnish hockey. Sure, he plays well on the Euro hockey tour and against B-class teams like Italy. But Peltonen has always been completely useless in best on best tournaments, especially against NA teams.

You could have just put this  in there and it would have saved you alot of trouble.

and it makes me very bitter if USA will knock-out Finns in Wednesday...I mean our country is very underrated in hockey even we live in new century.

It took years to gain some respect from others in hockey and now we have reached top totally...so USA can screwed everything in wednesday...i hate USA too much, they got so much confidence that it makes me sick.

Otherway Finland is today lot better team, though some players has last chance to win something big.

I just can imagine how good we could be in Turin, if our team would have Pitkanen, T. Ruutu also in squad...

Hi I am American I am here to take your medals I like to eat Finnish babies that is all.

Completely useless? Who was it that scored the game winner in the bronze medal game in Nagano?

Yeah, we suck. Just luck and terrible opponents make us look good. Actually we belong to the b-pool..

The whole tournament makes me very angry if Finns lose wednesday...four years ago i understated it, cos Finland was quite poor in the all the games (expect against Russia), but now they must go in medal-games, atleast to bronze-game!

The Finns were pretty good in the Q's against Canada in a 2-1 loss :dunno:

Just what you need, two Ruutus. I actually had more respect for the Finns before this tournament, but injuring the opposing team's best player to ensure that you win your group isn't what the Olympics are about. I thought Finland was a classy country, but you don't let your goons pull crap like that and gain my respect.
I agree. After what happened along with what Finlands coach had to say after the illegal hit Finland does not deserve a medal.

I guess we need to close the embassy in Prague. Just in case someone would try to burn it.

Well, if you want respect, you respect your opponent and beat them fairly. If you want a piece of metal at all costs, then you'd feel at home in the USA.

The hit was clean. Jagr is all right. Get over it and move on, mate.

Yep, same here. I don't think we're a single favourite, but at least we have a chance to win, which doesn't happen too often :sarcasm:

I'm perfectly happy just to see them play as well as they do. A medal would be humongous when compared to the expectations before the tourney.

I think it would be a tragedy because the Fins have done an excellent job playing like a team and beating all the tougher teams in their pool and the US hasn't done anything except beat Kazakhstan, and give up less goals then Latvia.

In the end, the Fins have earned it and the US has not

Surely Ruutu`s effort was wrong, but Jagr can continue in the games and Finland has played very well (expect Ruutu`s hazard).

Fortunately, they play the games for a reason. It's not a popularity contest. Whoever wins is the one that earns it.

I edited the part that seemed to implicate the country of Finland, I did not edit the fact that I thought the Finnish hockey team let Ruutu get away with what I consider to be a totally classless and malicious play.

As far as the USA doing anything for a medal... you might note that I used the word metal, not "medal." I wasn't referring to the hockey team, but apparently this went right over your head. The concept of right and wrong goes far beyond the world of hockey, and I wouldn't doubt many of those who defended Ruutu's hit as "legal" (as if that would make it OK if true) would also defend the USA as being legal in many of its horrible actions against other countries.

What Westerlund said was true: the hit was clean, but apparently Jagr thinks he's better than everybody else and chose to use that stupid retro-eggshell aka the Jofa helmet. The helmet cut his face and made the situation look worse than it was and it sure didn't help that he put his head down at the very last second before impact.

Not only do we get to rehash Jarkko's hit, but now apparently the USA's foreign policy is relevant to the topic.

Finland has had some definite success recently in international play. There was the bronze two olympics ago, the tooth and nail battle with Canada in the world cup gold game, and Finland being imo the best team in the round robin this olympics. Sure Finland could lose to the USA, but the fact remains that Finland is growing stronger as an international force in hockey. Of course, after Selanne and Koivu retire Finland will have a huge void to fill.
