The written word is often misinterpreted, that's why those funny little face thingies are included. I misunderstood the post as laughing that one more country is joining a jihad against the USA due to the use of the :biglaugh: . Had the poster used the :sarcasm: then it would have been taken as a joke.

Can you see why that might have happened? :biglaugh:

Just giving you a hard time on that second post. ;)

and it makes me very bitter if USA will knock-out Finns in Wednesday...I mean our country is very underrated in hockey even we live in new century.

It took years to gain some respect from others in hockey and now we have reached top totally...so USA can screwed everything in wednesday...i hate USA too much, they got so much confidence that it makes me sick.

Otherway Finland is today lot better team, though some players has last chance to win something big.

I just can imagine how good we could be in Turin, if our team would have Pitkanen, T. Ruutu also in squad...

Just what you need, two Ruutus. I actually had more respect for the Finns before this tournament, but injuring the opposing team's best player to ensure that you win your group isn't what the Olympics are about. I thought Finland was a classy country, but you don't let your goons pull crap like that and gain my respect.

I don't think losing to the USA would be a catastrophe. Sure, Finland is the favourite right now but it's not like we have a stacked team that has to win a medal or heads will roll. Team Finland already surpassed my expectations and any further success will just be icing on the cake.

Oh for heaven's sake, can we not discuss that hit in every thread about Finland?

Think what you want about Jarkko Ruutu, but Tuomo is far from a goon. Those two are completely different type players.

The whole olympic games has been quite poor for Finland so icehockey-team really can save these games...if they beat USA there is lot of thrill to left last matches.

otherwhise some Jarkko Ruutu is player that i hate...

I think people read too much into what goes down on the ice. You can't judge the attitude of en entire nation based upon what is said on these boards or what some players may do on the ice. Finland sits up there quietly on the top of the world. They mind their own business for the most part and don't interfere negatively with other people's business. They are a positive contribution to the world and have my respect as a nation on and off the ice. :thumbu:

i don't think tuomo ruutu is a dirty player. he's 1 of better young players in world. he does like to hit, but he's not a goon like jarkko. i'd say he's closer to ovechkin than to j. ruutu.
jarkko should have been suspended for at least 1 game.

Let's be fair here. Tuomo has had his share of borderline hits as well. He's just more skilled.

Note: I do not think that Jarkko's hit was dirty.

"post of the day"

damn it, Russia is winning all those figure skating gold medals, so they won't care if their hockey team loses.

and the US is winning all those snowboarding medals, so they don't even watch ice hockey

Finland sucks everywhere, so give them gold in hockey already!!! :sarcasm:

The difference between Jarkko and Tuomo is simple...Jarkko doesnt have any good skills and Tuomo have...but for Tuomo it is quite scary that he is very badly injured many times and he is only 22!!!

Well, if you want respect, you respect your opponent and beat them fairly. If you want a piece of metal at all costs, then you'd feel at home in the USA.

I didn't mean to imply that Finland is a bunch of barbarians, I'm sure it's a beautiful and classy place, and I would love to visit Finland. I just thought teams like Finland were above such things.

Also, I doubt Finland is missing better caliber players than Sweden, Czechs, Canada are missing due to injury.

Yes youre right. Finland has been very good, but im still shamed about Ruutu`s effort in against Czechs. And Ruutu is example that Finland has some very mediocre players...some swedes, czechs and canadians definitely have more depth on squad.

Apart from Kiprusoff, nope. We simply don't have better caliber players than the ones those countries are missing. Pitkänen might become one in time and he's certainly looked good this season when he's played, but he still has a long way to go before he's proven that he has it.

And I'm a bit biased as my grandparents came to Canada from Finland after the dust-up in the winter of '39/'40. ;)

Finland has a smaller pool of players to begin with, so losing players like Pitkänen, Väänänen, Tuomo Ruutu, Sami Kapanen, Kiprusoff and Lehtonen hurts them a lot more than the teams you mentioned.

My point is that Niittymäki has been very good replace to Kipru&Lehtonen, but surely some Pitkanen is way better than some AJ Niemi or Nummelin!

Don't try and feed me this crap. I take it you never watched Olympic hockey before 1998.

Maybe so, but I think Czechs losing Hasek, Elias, Prucha, Havlat, and having Jagr injured hurt their chances significantly.
