The ultimate Hfboards nonsense. Reigning MVP + Rocket winner for a prospect.

Insane.
Ita not as insane as you think considering that Matthews only has 1 year left on his contract after this season.

Hypothetically the Leafs could do a Dryden Hunt for McDavid and Draisaitl deal.
Come on man. Don’t be ridiculous!!.........

Hunt is an absolute stud. Edmonton would have to include RNH and a 1st round pick to make this deal even remotely fair!! 😉😉😉😉

Many years ago on this very site someone proposed to sell the farm for the 1st pick and draft Yakupov...

This is missing significant context. The NHL is a salary cap league and value per dollar matters. It’s extremely likely that Bedard provides more value per dollar than Matthews next season and every season following.

If you trade Matthews for Bedard you remove us from contender status until Bedard matches his impact, which seeing Matthews is a Hart/Lindsey/Rocket winning C who's big and good defensively is a big ask. You only do this if Matthews makes it explicit that he's not coming back and you get big adds on Zona's end.

I think people are really overestimating Matthews desire to play in a college arena, local connections only go so far. And I doubt Arizona would do a trade like this for just 1 season of Matthews

Who cares about NHLers when we can have picks and prospects!
It's obvious there is a chunk of this fanbase that would rather have high draft picks than a cup contending team. Complete nonsense.

I’d do it if Matthews doesn’t commit to us long term

Bedard is too good to bust, he’s gonna be electric from the second he touched the ice

I’m worried about having a reverse Tavares situation, much rather deal him than lose him for nothing

Thread is pretty unrealistic though, no team would trade their pick. Especially Arizona, they have a hard enough time getting fans to post attention to them anyways, they need something to brand

You're missing the context that Matthews is a generational goalscorer and superstar 1st line C. Sorry, I'm not willing to risk that on a prospect. I don't see Bedard as a better player at any time in his career then Matthews is now.

They haven't won a round in the Matthews era so I'm not sure why people are supposed to believe things are different now.
Now you're the one leaving out quite a bit of context. The fact is that they are a contender, and have one of the best chances at the cup. You don't throw that away because of a shiny new toy, and a refusal to understand how and why they actually lost those past series.

The league is won on contract efficiency. Having the best player isn’t enough to win.

Tampa was close but they still didn’t win. Montreal and Columbus were inexcusable. Refer to my last post about contract efficiency as it pertains to the “shiny new toy”.

Berard+ for Matthews makes sense if Matty indicates he won't sign July 1. Who knows what they do if they make a 7th consecutive first round exit now that Willie has closed the gap between himself and 16 and 34.

There's more to it than that, and you don't even know if Bedard will be more efficient relative to cap anyway. When you're in a position to win, like we are, you don't throw that away. If you just keep trading the best thing for the next thing, you'll never win.

They were all close (maximum games, outplayed all of them, outscored two of them), and while they ended in unfortunate outcomes, nothing about them invalidates our contender status or cup potential this year, especially when the last two played in the cup final.

If you believe that then that is your prerogative but not everyone has to believe it.
