My condolences, Robo.

How is rest of your family dealing with it? I remember you told about trying to make them take the Covid seriously a while back, I hope you're not getting any undue backslash for it.

They all ended up getting COVID. So now they know firsthand how bad it is and why they should take it seriously.

I haven't said a word about it. Now's not the time for told you so's, obviously.

I wonder in the near future, will they be able to target the reasons (besides obesity, that seems to be a pretty big indicator) Covid affects people so disparately.

Spoke to a lot of doctors and nurses while my dad was in the hospital. Several of them mentioned genetics. I started reading about that and found a lot of studies and summaries centered around chromosomes #3 and #12. Most of it's over my head but it sounds like people of mostly European descent are set up a little better to deal with diseases like COVID. People of more mixed race descent (there's a lot of Melungeon/Native American/Creole ancestry in deep south people, even deep south white people) are more susceptible, and in large part due to differences in those chromosomes.

I'm sure that's a very broad interpretation but I'm no geneticist.

Obviously, and that's really why I asked, because sadly it might be only too humane response by your family members to take your mere presence as an implied told-you-so when they need something, anything to anger against. So that you know that we got your back if you need to vent somewhere outside of family.

It definitely hits people differently. Buddy of mine and wife and daughter had it a few weeks back, all non-shot-takers, and they did their 10 days and are back at it.

Is it that different with Covid than other viruses in terms of how they affect people. Clearly Covid has been more deadly. For example, in the past, we've had a stomach bug go through our family and it affects some family members much worse than others. Same goes for the flu in the past. One family member knocked out by it, other members it's like a bad cold.

The shingles vaccine knocked me on my ass for almost 2 days. Felt like I was in a car roll-over. My wife barely felt anything.

It's a good question you ask and maybe there will be more research into it as the stakes are much higher with Covid than the examples I listed.

My nephew had covid before there were vaccines available. He was young and not obese so he was mainly just tired and lost his sense of smell. 8 months later, he still feels fatigued more often and while his smell is back, it's different. For instance, the smell of chicken, and some other foods, is now repugnant to him where it was fine before. He said the foods taste the same though. Weird.

Right now both my senses of taste and smell are severely dulled. I can smell a little and all food tastes bland unless it's very sweet or very spicy. My wife fixed me a bowl of clam chowder yesterday and it tasted like warm, creamy water.

I think you touched on two things here. One of the smartest bosses I've had once stated that there are a lot of people who will forgive you much more easily for being wrong than for being right. And as I got older I learned that when something really bad happens people almost need to place blame somewhere, even if it's not completely rational.

Robo, the thought that comes to me is: "well . . .shit." :(

I don't know, I think that when you see family in person as opposed to just communicating via social media or text messages, shit gets very real and people easily let go of those little grudges.

Like, I love my uncle (my dad's brother) to death. He's always been one of my favorite people in the world. He f***ed up and the cost was the life of his brother who was also his best friend. But my dad also made his own decision to get in the car with him.

Maybe I'll go back to being mad at both of them later, but I doubt it. Life's too short. I've been through the ringer with health shit the last couple years so much I just don't feel like indulging negative emotions that much anymore.

They said why water bottles were thrown?

this is why we don’t get lids at stadiums and i have to sweat all the way to my seat. I have to hope my clumsy self doesn’t spill the 832500 dollar bottle, times 5, because I don’t have lids.

I went to see Iron Maiden on a stadium in 2008 I reckon. The day was hot as hell and not a single breeze in sight. It was forbidden to bring any food or drink of your own, and in the back of the field there was one booth that sell water... but they refused to give the caps, because "if you can close the bottle, it becomes an object that can do serious damage if thrown". I understood that, but the funny part was that the field was paved with gravel and rocks. I immediately spotted a fist-sized rock from the ground and pointed out to the sales clerk that "if someone wants to throw things, I bet those do much worse damage than a mere bottle". In reply I got a murmur of "I have my orders" - and one cap for those four bottles of water I bought (for myself and my friends).

Ever since that day I've brought my own bottle caps to open-air concerts.

How dare you introduce logic and reason to the issue.

Pfizer vaccine is now fully authorized by the FDA. The vaccination requirements probably will start rolling out at businesses more rapidly now.

As will the new excuses from those individuals who said they were "just waiting for it to be FDA approved" because that's all it ever was, an easy excuse.

But this is ultimately good if it starts driving vaccination requirements for public settings. You can only ride the bike with training wheels for so long. Have to start excluding those who choose not to be responsible members of society.

I am. That way the Army can mandate it. The Army will cover me if side effects occur when the Army mandates it.

My friend's bro is in the Army and was pretty much in the "I'll get it when they mandate it" (because they can't mandate it until full FDA approval) for that reason, and she was wary of getting it until it became something that the military was willing to mandate it.

Given Moderna is essentially the same technology/science, it's only a matter of a short time before that gets it's approval as well.

I thought I read today that the Sec. of Def. said that as of today, given the FDA approval, the vaccine was now mandated.

Probably. They will push out an MOR or / and an order with a timeline to get it. That will make it official.
