Much like climate change funding and military funding, we get to foot the bill for everyone else either directly ($$) or indirectly (inventions/research). Also, most EU countries are also like 1/20th the size of population and land area, along with having much more homogenous populations...it's a lot easier to implement and control. Not saying it wouldn't be possible to do here, but there are a lot more hurdles and difficulties facing us, plus people understandably don't trust our government these days.

I think these are just the excuses that politicians and media want us to believe are insurmountable along with some scare tactics. Those in charge don't WANT to do it because many of them are being funded by those that have a vested interest in NOT doing anything about it. Lobbyists for healthcare (pharmaceuticals, hospitals, insurance companies, etc. spend more than any other sector, by a large margin.

Exactly. Theoretically, we could work towards improving our healthcare system. But in order for real change to happen, it has to go through politicians, and as you said, many politicians are already in cahoots with those who benefit from it remaining the same.

And this applies to more than just healthcare.

If I was a health CEO, I would not want "nominated for deletion" anywhere near my name.

"Well David, you had a fantastic year and the shareholders are very happy with many of the moves you've made. Unfortunately, the last quarter's profits were just UNDER record-breaking, so you've been nominated for deletion.

You have 24 hours to vacate the country. After that time, our people WILL find you."

Not just pols but the public at large needs to start taking preventative measures a hell of a lot more seriously. Exercise regularly, pay attention to what you eat and what you put in your body. It isn't just the system that needs to be fixed, it's f***ing US, we can fix the system all we want but until we fix the idea for ourselves that we can eat fast food and shit tier processed foods all we want with calorie intakes that are maybe appropriate for Michael f***ing Phelps at peak training the health issues in this country will never get solved.

No no, they want us to have guns. Guns cause injuries that they get to exploit for financial gain.

They just getting scared because those guns are now being turned toward them
The number of injuries caused by guns is comically low compared to just poor eating/drinking habits, car accidents, cancer, etc. Plus those are usually one-time fixes that then heal with time...it's the unidentifiable injuries/ailments, mental health problems, and pain that allow them to pass you around to every doctor for every test imaginable so everyone gets their piece of the pie

In an ideal world.

But when you can get a cheeseburger and fries for the cost of a salad... Good luck changing societal eating habits let alone excersize routines. All the while the food industry will fight tooth and nail.

There is a reason WalMart has an overwhelmingly larger customer base than Whole Foods. Ain't gonna change.

I am not sure, but you could probably find a post from me mentioning that US healtjcare benefits more non-US citizens than it benefits US citizens
Weve still got people living in tents in Western NC from the hurricane Helene, yet they gave a billion to Africa for their hardship from storms. Let me know when Europe gives NC aide to help us.

Oh no doubt that's a huge part of the problem, the vast majority of it in fact. When the costs are no different, and in fact often less expensive, people will go for what's more palatable to them vs what's better unless they're making a conscious effort otherwise every single time. It took a major health scare of my own during COVID to change things for me once I got past long COVID to get me to change my habits and routines, and compared to the general pop I was already in semi reasonable shape never letting things get truly out of hand.

It's really f***ing damning that they are too shamed by the nature of their business to want to have their names public. Maybe if you didn't shit all over the American public for 20+ years prioritizing profits over people you wouldn't feel so scared now.

Imagine that.
Guys who don't like plebs having guns want people with guns to protect them.

Hmm.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see the push towards gun control come from an unexpected source (I.e. the right)

Elites are happy to give the “lesser” population guns, as it makes them feel safe. And it’s an easy manipulation target for when they need to get/remain in power (i.e. “Doing this will cause you to lose your guns/safety”). And as long as those guns are turned on other “lessers”, there’s no issue.

But if the general public starts turning those guns on the 1%, you’re going to see the people in power quickly change their tune about how important the 2nd amendment is.
