I still think Forslund is the best PBP guy in hockey and one of the best across all sports (Eric Collins gets my vote for #1 across the sports, at least the Hornets have that going for them). I'd love to still have him here and I was upset when we let him walk. All that said, him being gone has really had no impact on my watching the games. The product on the ice is what matters most, I could watch the games on mute if we're winning and if we really suck and don't have young exciting players on the ice I probably wouldn't watch much regardless of who's calling the games. I've grown to actually enjoy Mike, and Tripp was frankly every bit as important as John in the broadcast team.

ALL THAT SAID. WIN OR WE RIOT

Variable pay aspect of “Butts in seats” would have paid off big time the last two years.
Would it? Even if the pretext for the re-negotiation was covid, I'd say it's more than likely that an employer would use the opportunity to drive in a change for the worse terms from the employee POW which is also meant as permanent. They sure as hell weren't getting a raise out of it.

That’s true. But if we’re using that to say “why complain about it” then go ahead and shut down the whole message board. It’s not our team.
I mean, it's possible that one could do both, but when it's a losing team that is hemorrhaging your money, that choice is very real for you in a way it isn't for fans on a message board. That's my point. I certainly understand complaining about it, and I did, loudly. I even set up a GoFundMe to get Forslund to stay! Remember? Pepperidge Farm remembers.

I mean, maybe. While I don't know for sure, I think we're talking a full "0" less from an order of magnitude perspective than we are when we talk about bringing in Dylan Coghlan as an 8D on a 1-way deal. Feels rounding error-ish compared to the day-to-day operations of a hockey team.

Maybe I'm wrong and Forslund is making $500k+ per year. But the sense I get is RBA is barely making that amount.

I think he stated this at the time but he probably just has data that says the fans that are gonna watch are gonna watch and the ones that won't, won't. But at the time he did say something in one of his many interviews along the lines of "it did kind of piss me off when I saw some letters and Tweets and whatnot saying that people would stop watching the team as much over this. I mean, that seems like a bit much, no?" Which seemed like a very out of character/process sentiment from him.

Someone said it earlier but I do have this weird sense that Forslund and Dundon were a bit oil and water from the beginning, though.

Sure, since we don’t know their comp plans it’s hard to know either way.

I would say though that variable comp plans can benefit employees when they exceed goals and/or when company does better. I’d say Dundon has done quite nicely versus plan the last two years and as a result so should his employees on variable comps.

I like Forslund and think he's one of the best in the business, but the number of times (even in the dark years), I tuned into a Canes game because of Forslund is exactly zero.

Forslund thought he was worth more than Dundon was offering, and he was probably right. Dundon thought paying Forslund a high salary wouldn't help the bottom line, and he was probably right as well.

I bet neither one regrets the decision.

John would be doing more for the bottom line than Dylan Coghlan is lmao.

Just not true at all. The team has been much better since John left regardless of how you look at it. The trams value is damn near 1 billion dollar and when Dubdon bought the team it was a little over $300 million. Obviously TF knows what he is doing and John didn't improve the on ice product a bit and seems like he didn't really increase team value either

And you attribute that rise in team worth to Dylan Coghlan?

If not you’ve missed my point.

No not at all. I'm saying John was here for what almost 20 years and the trams value was pretty stagnat for the majority if those 20 years. He leaves and the valuse triples in a few years. Its obvious that John is not the reason for the stagnat value but its also very obvious him being here no matter how great a PBP guy he is added zero value to the team

I don’t think that logically follows.
