They'll probably win on Saturday but can we send Panarin to which ever team signs Strome this summer?
With his money gone and nothng else back in return for him .....we would be further ahead minus maybe some minor short term pain ... I will ask the next part of the reply in a more appropriate thread with enough time allowed so it won't be foolishly merged .

I don’t think we’re a slow team. We make decisions slow, aren’t confident/decisive when we do make decisions and we somehow play physically slower than we’re capable of because there isn’t a soul on this roster, besides like role players like Motte, who has a HUNGRY MOTHER f***ER mentality. We’re a bunch of well fed, fat, domesticated dogs. We need some wolves. We have none.
We need a big mean C up the middle and a relentless checker there as well.....and a FO specialist like Staal . Our Wings will be fixed when KK and Laf and Othmann/Cuylee are all on the club & Blais and maybe Kravs . I would be very careful with July 1 signings. It might mean we also drop a few points in the standings next season . Winning game 7 means losing our first rounder......I'm not in love with that idea. Sometimes a step back can be a good thing .

Rooney has no business playing over anyone.

Reaves doesn’t either but at least he uh… had a scoring chance in this series? All
Rooney does is skate and get himself out of position in every zone and lose the puck when there is no one within 10 feet of him.
Go with the GOAT...fastest player in the NHL whose team is in the playoffs and he is healthy and not playing ...and an ex Cane at that. One GAME !!! His speed will force the Cane defense . Forget about regular season stuff....this is what can turn around a series . One good run at the Cane net and he could take out a goalie and a Dman and then the next guy that jumps him.

Ol' retired dads in town. Haven't got to watch a game with him since pre-season 2019 live. It was nice but also a bummer, was at a pub in midtown with a dickhole bartender - when the Canes went up 2-1 I watched him look up at the screen and kinda under his breath go "Nice." 100% Devs/Isles/Philthy/Pitt fan.

Needless to say I cut his tip in half for that.

DISCLAIMER:

* dad in town also means I will be drinking for the duration of this series. *

Eh. I feel like we're playing with house money at this point. If we beat Carolina, great, if we don't, we keep our first rounder - also great. Either way, the kids have grown a LOT these playoffs and it bodes well for their futures.

My biggest worries at this point are finding the $ for a solid second line center as opposed to a second line right wing playing C (looking at you, Strome). Maybe Copp is the answer, maybe not. Also, having someone in the 3LD spot so we can shoot Nemeth into the sun and keep Braun as a 7th would be nice. Next season I'm not opposed to trying something like:

Miller/Fox
Jones/Trouba
Lindgren/Schneider

I hope the players aren't feeling too down after game 5. This series is still very winnable.

Score first and we win.

Why would they be down? They lost a devastating game to Pitt in game 1 and ended up winning the series. This team knows how to play from behind. I think they can win tomorrow night, but not sure about game 7 on the road.

Idk I’m just hoping they come out an play like their life is on the line in game 6 and they don’t get in their heads and look past game 6. I could see that happening as that’s a common trap teams fall in to.

Still, I hope they realize how winnable this series is even without home ice. We saw the Rangers win series where they were down 3-2 in basically every playoff during the last contending window we had.

2012 Ottawa round 1, fell behind 3-2 (losing game 5 at home) and rallied to win in 7

2013 vs Washington round 1, fell behind 2-0 and 3-2 eventually winning in 7 despite Washington having home ice.

2014 Pittsburgh round 2, fell behind 3-1 and came back to win in 7 despite Pitt having home ice.

2015 Washington round 2, fell behind 3-1 and came back to win in 7

Tampa in 2015 we came back from 3-2 to force a game 7 but lost.

Yea, they need someone who can win faceoffs and a better fourth line. Just playing Hunt would help. Braun won't stay as the 7th D though. He was getting first pair minutes on Philly and undoubtedly will want to be in the lineup nightly.

Another thing the top teams do that the NYR are not great at. Entering the zone with speed, controlling the puck, as a 3 man unit. One player gets to the high slot, fires the puck, the other two crash the net. See it alllll over the league but the NYR don't play this way.
Yes. This. Rangers last game and when they’re getting stifled are always passing to the guy coming back, going the wrong way. They don’t get forward momentum. Constantly stuck in neutral. Not sure how to beat that.

If that's the case, I thank him for his service and wish him the best in all his future endeavors. Then I start looking for the 2022-2023 version of 2014-2015 Matt Hunwick.

I'm sure this will be a healthy and insightful thread.

The series is not over!

Mod Warning -

This was a bad game. There is plenty to be frustrated about. But treat each other with respect. Your fellow fans aren't the reason the Rangers were awful tonight. Additionally, enough of the xenophobic BS regarding our Euro players. I've already deleted a bunch of posts. This is your only warning. I'm at the point where I will start handing out forum bans like candy - GM
Arrogant arent we Machinehead?!
Hate to tell you but the soft euros on this team- Chytil, Kakko even Panarin are not built for playoff hockey. But your just a internet kid who think he knows hockey. You are clueless.
I’ll give Panarin a pass because he must definitely looks hurt.

You need emotion and physicality to win in the playoffs. The ability to create space
Btw LaFreniere is also soft.
Regrettably Chytil, Kakko and LaFreniere are all busts. That line is a combined -15
As for Strome he has had a decent series and maintains an edge which not many other Rangers have managed to do.
Kreider has been absolute garbage. I think I saw him throw his first real body check in the third period in the whole series last game.. he needs to up his emotion and use his body what a fvcking head case he is. Panarin has been horrific but looks severely limited by injury.

After watching these playoffs I hope we use him to get a Center. As great as he is moving the puck I think Pitt and Carolina would beat the crap out of him. Not sure he’s a great playoff defender.
Unsure how you have come to believe he will get the crap beat out of him. He strikes me as very elusive and perhaps the single biggest problem the Rangers have encountered against Carolina is advancing the puck out of the defensive zone with possession, which is a strength of his.

That said, I would trade any player if I thought it would make the team better longterm.

It was also the other way around too, when Copp got here and Strome got hurt Panarin played his best hockey of the year. With Copp at center with Panarin and whoever they had on the other side (IIRC it was Kakko and Hunt switching) they were outstanding. This is because Copp is one of the best transition forwards in hockey where i'm willing to bet, honest to god, Strome is one of the worst. But I do think Strome is also better away from Panarin, but still not amazing. It's just really frustrating that there seems to be nothing that can break them apart and it's lasted for two f***ing coaches.

Miller has played more hockey to this point than he has his entire college career combined. I think it's more than fair to expect he hasn't looked as dynamic. He also has to carry Trouba's stupid ass around with him. He is absolutely the least of my concerns.

Agreed on Jones and Kakko.

Zac Jones would be the most evasive defender on the team, that matters a lot to avoiding hits and being durable.

Fox has gotten crunched several times these playoffs and always gets right back up. I really don't get this attitude that being small means you just cease to exist in the playoffs.
To be clear, I have zero concerns about Miller but I doubt he has all of a sudden hit a wall of too many games played. I think the forechecking of Carolina has kept his offense in check, for fear of getting caught up ice.

Carolina is a very good team. They played their best game of the series in game five. Gallant said the Rangers looked tired. Maybe the Rangers are tired. We will see what happens.

Looking back through the years, I sometimes think we all tend to overrate the value of draft picks. In any draft, there are only a handful of major impact NHL players and a handful of decent complementary NHL players.

I'm not saying the draft isn't very important, but far more more players fail than succeed, even among the ones we think will be difference makers. There are very few can't misses and even some of them miss. Once you get outside the top 10 or so, the odds of getting a decent NHLer falls way below 50%.

I'll take winning a Game 7 over losing one draft prick, without a second thought.

Losing your best offensive forward is not minor short term pain. It's a huge hole in your lineup.

A guy gets injured and people want to start abandoning ship.

See Adam Fox. As elusive as he is he has been targeted and is laboring at times.

Out of all the people to pick to say something positive about you pick Ryan Strome!?

I find it ridiculous that anyone would prefer to lose to keep a draft pick instead of winning a game 7 to get to a Conference Final... because they think the draft pick will one day help us get to a Conference Final...

Talk about being arrogant.

Panarin has been the best player in multiple playoff series. He led an undermanned Columbus team to a sweep of the far better Lightning. Once, against Washington, he was head and shoulders above every Capital, including Ovechkin.

Kakko isn't soft, at all. He just hasn't been the offensive force we hoped for. Chytil isn't soft, either. He is one of the Rangers who hasn't been completely controlled in this series.

Calling Lafreniere soft is perhaps one of the worst evaluations I've ever seen here. He is the opposite of soft.

After I read that nugget I wondered if your entire post was satire. When I re-read it, I sadly learned it wasn't.
