Conflicted as to where to mention this,Food,Travel,Fishing..... was diving for some fish and only managed to yield a squid and when going up for some air,met a German man that that was also searching.... Spoke no international language and my German is terrible! But he was asking if I saw any sea urchins, and they are all over the place,if you like that sort of thing. Many like urchins, but not sure the best way to prepare them, much like the squid actually.

Everything has changed around us, some for the better and some for the worst. We lived organically before it became a buzzword lol and it was the best of times. My grandfather had a commercial salmon license and I fished it with him as a boy. Two nets strung from a shore fast on the rocks. 5-30 salmon a day but no hauling on Sunday's lol. We would always pick out a 4-6 pounder to cut up for steaks and it was as gourmet as it gets. My grandmother was the best cook of seafood that ever walked and so was yours I bet lol. Simple times that are unattainable now......sigh.
Fantastic!

He’s been hardcore so far. He has acknowledged the existence of this thread but refuses to bite.
Rapala makes incredible stick baits but their hooks are too small. Was flipping in the Allegheny Saturday and some giant toothy grabbed my bait and just swam around with it. LOL
Happens at least 2-3 times every year

How much fishing do you do? I don’t think I’ve fished in over 10 years and even then, it was very casual. I think it’s one of those things you mostly develop a passion for, from your childhood or if it’s passed on from your dad or a family member.

What’s your favorite memory from fishing?

Most of the analytics in my life are confounded about fishing, because of the “control” issue. They seem to love me for my optimism and I for their tentative curiosity.

Fishing? It is about the prospect, not certainty of success. Every time you try.

You’d know that cause you’re an avid fisherman. I merely dabbled, I mostly only know from third party accounts and watching TV.

I also found out from people who own fishing boats and any other kind, that there are only two days when you are overjoyed about a boat — the day you buy it and the day you sell it.

I have done 8 hikes so far since the beginning of Spring. This weekend I went to Mount Baker in Washington states where I hike Skyline Divide trail and Hadley Peak. 18km in distance and 2000 meters in total elevation. The views were breathtaking.

Whenever I hear about hiking, it’s from these crime shows where people get abducted by serial killers.

How safe are these hiking adventures? Are there other people doing them at the same time that are close by or do you end up being alone for most of them?

A lot to consider if embarking on a trek. Location and safety, with a group or solo. Hiking should not haves risks, but people do take them, that's on them. Friends got held up by the guide escorting the group in the Blue mountains in Jamaica even. Should only have to be concerned about wildlife while trekking, but sad reality is not the case.

Hey, if you are ever in Western NY let me know. My friends and I will take you fishing. Seriously.

Thanks, real kind of you.

I enjoy reading all the experiences in this thread. I don't know if I'd have the inclination to do that now, I think as you get older, you get set in your ways. Some stuff I enjoy vicariously and I'm OK with. Kudos to you for being passionate about it.

Personally, sea urchin (uni) is best raw immediately after harvesting the orangy roe. Japanese sushi style is my favourite, but you could cook some fresh pasta with butter and parsley, and toss the uni in at the last second. Maybe add some lemon zest and a squeeze of the juice. Just a touch of salt and pepper at the end.

I'm envious, my friend. My love for fishing is only surpassed by my ineptitude at it.

Like I mentioned to sheed and runner and others, it was a lifetime ago but something I took for granted when it was happening and isn't that the way life goes for most of us? Simple times in our lives mostly times from our youth that we remember that would be amazing to experience once again. My Grandfather was the most influential man in my life and even though he has been dead for 18 years now, the memories that I have of him and his vast knowledge of the sea and so many other things are the best memories of my life. He was also a habs die hard and that's where my devotion to this team came from.

Interesting how your Grandpa influenced you to become a Habs’s fan while you’ve had so many great memories with him.

Thanks for sharing.

That's what I heard but never having it,let alone prepping it is a little unnerving.Got no problem picking them up and handing them off to those that want them though. You make it sound pretty good though! Never had in Japan,as far as I know, but have eaten so many unknown things there, who really knows. The other half is a local and I follow her lead and think she messes with me at times. lol.
