...when PLD pulls his head out of his arse and becomes much less of a Prima Dona, then we can think about signing him...until then, he's proven nothing except that he quits on his teams when he encounters any "emotional blips" (remind you of any current Hab??...yeah, me too)...we don't need that around our young talent right now...
The off-ice stuff worries me too about Dubois, but we all know how much Tortorella can get under anyone's skin... I don't mind him having wanted out of CBJ.

The winnipeg stuff isn't as clear cut and is more worrisome to me, but who knows if the rumors are true on that team. We know Scheifele is crazy.

If one dreams, then one must dream BIG....

We get Bedard, sign Hubs for 8x6 and then Dubois for 8x8.

Now we have a team that starts with a 3 goal advantage and struggles to keep it because of diaper age defense and shell shocked goaltending.

Just saying.....

Too bad they got rid of Lehkonen and Romanov ! That would had been even faster.
Somewhat true................but when you are last in the league, safe to say no one on the team performed well and changes would be made.
Getting younger, and changing the team was all but guaranteed to happen.

Both look like headcases, and I'm a Queb. Huberdeau spending his money on luxury cars and at his age! And Dubois' entitlement issues! These are red flags. They will ask for a huge part of the salary cap, which in itself is worth high draft picks, speaking in terms of magic beans, as you like to say. These are players I would stay away from. Look at a guy like Michael Matheson, wife and kids, greateful and a honest smile, a good person, the ceiling of Petry on a good day, that's the kind of Montrealer you want on the team. I don't know what's happening with our culture in Québec, maybe we should take a hint from the anglos sometimes... Dubois and Huberdeau are both hard passes.

Huberdeau its not even close Dubois is good but Huberdeau is better

I want both if it fits the cap structure. I think it can fit but we have to let this season play out first. Lots of information we will learn.

Huberdeau from age 30-37 at $9M?
vs
Dubois from age 24-30 at $7.5M?

I want both of them and I want them on the same line too! Slaf plays with Suzuki and Caufield.

I’d prefer neither. Huberdeau, an outstanding player, will be too old and will cost too much for where we’ll be during the rebuilding phase. PLD, a good player but a whiny sniveling bitch , should never be near this team. He lacks character and puts himself ahead of the team’s goals. Not someone I would like to see near any of our young impressionable players.

Huberdeau is an elite play driver and should age really well. Dubois is one of the best powerforwards in the league and a nice complementary piece while being 5 years younger. He should be somewhere between 1.5 and 2.5 millions cheaper

We'll get a better answer next year honestly. If the Habs luck out and get Bedard or another franchise-level prospect ala Jack Hughes, I'd go with Dubois. If the teams can't draft such a prospect as a result of shitty luck or overperforming next year, I'd take Huberdeau

Great teams need at least two elite playdrivers. Caufield might be that but we have no one else on the team or prospect pool who we can realistically bank on being such a player

Huberdeau is such a player. He'd come with an expiration date and at a significant cost but he "makes his teammates better"

Dubois : Younger, lower pricetag, prime position, significantly better playoff performer.

But there's no point in giving any asset for both.

... For pieces that will, respectively play around 18-19 (on D) and 14-15 (at C) minutes a night.

Man, the bolded!! :laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

Cap space is an asset.
The player who will play in Dubois' presumptive roster spot will also eat capspace. Unless he's not good enough for the said roster spot. Or on an ELC, in which case he'll eat even more capspace on his next deal (if he's good enough that is).

At his point this team will have to add a core piece (that is 1C, 2C, 1D, 2D, 1W, 2W, 1G and one of 3C or 3D) without substracting any. Dubois might be this piece. Giving WPG any futures or Suzuki at this juncture would be stupid though.

Unless the management team is incompetent and tries to turn this rebuild into a quasi-retool, as it seems they have with the Bach trade that will blow up in their faces as he's a bust, we'll be entering our competitive window in three to five years. Moving Lehkonen - an ever-undervalued and unfairly maligned player in Montreal and my favorite player over the last half-decade - was absolutely the right call. We didn't even have the cap space to sign him to a reasonable deal for this year.

Romanov I can agree with.

I want neither of these players.
Huberdeau will want a 7 year deal which makes him 37 ish when it's done.

Dubois shows his ass on every team he plays for.

Hubs is obviously better but i like Dubois grit and he fits our timeline more and dont see us being able to fit both without moving some huge contracts like Gallagher or Price

Slaf - Suzuki - Caufield
Dubois - 2023 1st - Anderson

i like this top 6 and should give us enough money to improve our def/goalie

long term...Dubois. If you look at their stats Huberdeau and PLD are pretty close in their first 5 or so seasons (+/- 0.66 ppg) I think PLD could have a similar upside and should cost less.

I think PLD fits the age of our core better.

I'm just wondering when Calgary pulls the trigger on Huberdeau or Weegar trades.

Either of these two are valuable for any team aiming for a Cup run and need of upgrading the positions these two play.

It's basically trade now or wait until the TDL when they are rentals, and so command less.

If I am Treliving I don't wait until after the season starts to see if these two fall in love with Calgary, I just don't think that happens that often. So for me it's offer them huge money for a long term , and I mean basically offer almost ti the maximum you are prepared to pay, and see if they take it. If it's no, then they are on the trade block, I don't wait until TDL unless the offers are crap.
I think Cgy is going for the Cup

Thinking Gorton said last week, the rebuild/retool would not be as long as many are thinking......not sure if he knows something he can't say, or it's wishful thinking....podcast with Bob McCowan...
I just hope he doesn't spend too much for too long on a 30 year old hometown guy, effectively Tavaresing our Cap situation.

You can laugh all you want, I'm used to HF wisdom and grew out of it when I saw its rotten fruits, ever since 1998. When I was still a kid, I believed it like you do. But listen, after getting convinced Hackett was better than Cuju by posters manoeuvring stats, and seeing your vague argument that you need to spend your cap space anyway, I know you are seriously thinking what you are writing... Spending the cap is an art and you're treating it like it's a hobby!

What the hell does that have to do with anything?
