How's Ovechkin looking this season? (esp. his -14 so far)

Totally agree. I'm a Caps fan but most of my friends and family are Penguins fans. Over the years, we have all arrived in the same place you describe.

Looks pretty much the same as the last few seasons. Don't look too much into +/- this year. Lots of pulled goalie situations. Lots of bad goals against while he is on the ice.

I would love playing for the Caps the next four seasons knowing the only reason the team is playing 82 games is to feed Ovechkin goals and finish last. Inspiring storyline!

BS alert. He is still their best option to score goals.
yeah for like the next 20 games until he pulls his groin.
then it's the Ovechkin parade for the next few years while Strome and Mantha wonder if this is what they worked so hard for

The fact that the other winger on the line for tonight's game against FLA is someone we picked up on waivers tells you about all you need to know about how injuries are hurting the Caps this year.

As someone who has watched the Caps for 15 years, it really is hard to gauge how he is this year because 1/2 of our top 6 from last year are on IR, with Wilson and Backstrom on LTIR.

I do thing he is pushing a little too much, but hard not to when there are so few other threats out on the ice.

From what I've noticed, his stamina has decreased quite significantly. So, he is getting tired quicker. His shifts will have to get shorter.

Had the Caps avoided the injuries, his numbers (especially the +/-) would have been better.

The only problem with Ovechkin right now is the team still looking at him like he's 25-30 years old and asking him to take them places. He's still been good, and faaaaaar from the worst thing the team is dealing with right now, but at some point they need to start thinking about him like a good second line player and not the franchise's main draft horse.

Unless bad luck or injuries play a big factor I don't think he's going to miss 40, especially if he goes on his trademark tear here in the next few months, but he's been just fine. Arguably better than expected all things considered, just not going to Superman a bad Kuznetsov anywhere this year.

Where does this line of thinking come from? The had 2 options, resign the greatest player in caps history and see if they could tinker with the roster they had or let him walk and the fan base would have hated them forever. Imo if they had strengthened the goaltending 2 years ago they win both of their 1st round playoff matchups. So if the team has switched to the ovi record show what did they change to do this? He's still their best option on the pp by far. They have some underperforming/injury prone big contracts in kuzy, Carlson, oshie Backstrom. What should they do so that people don't perceive this as the ovi record show

There's nothing they CAN do... Ovechkin runs that team.

Two things I noticed occasionally: Ovechkin is often looking to pass when he should shoot (I don't know angles like he does and from his vantage point so I could be wrong, of course). Also, others have tried to feed him when he is not a scoring threat from his position in the offensive zone. Overall, though, I think he might be the best player on the Caps this season so far along with Kuemper and Jensen (Charlie Lindgren has been good too).

I feel so old now and though I think we've got some crazy great young players now... What Sid and Ovi did (to a slightly smaller extent Geno) for hockey was unmatched for the last several decades.

Like McDavid is awesome but the impact of Sid and Ovi's rivalry from when they were just 18/19 was bonkers. I think people don't appreciate it enough.

I still have memories being absolutely adrenaline filled for Caps/Pens games. Ovi was an absolute nightmare to watch. It's easy for people to forget the speed and ferocity Sid, Ovi, and Geno went at it over their early years.

I'll always have a ton of respect for Ovechkin, without him the Pens success would feel less complete.
The 2009 playoffs series between Pittsburgh and Washington is in my personal top 5 all-time playoff series.
