The second goal of this game is Howie Morenz's first NHL goal:

Funny little historical detail: that goal is both Morenz's first NHL point and Joe Malone's LAST NHL point
Wow, that's really cool ! I had no idea that Malone and Morenz had even been teammates. (Shame on me for a month of Sundays.)

Does anyone why Malone seemingly sucked in Montreal? In 1921-22, with Hamilton, he scored 24 goals in 24 games.

Then, his two seasons with Montreal, 1 goal and 1 assist in 30 games....

By the way, we should turn this into a thread of occasions when a 'first' and 'last' co-occured in the same game.

I'll start: I realized a few years ago that the first NHL game I ever attended featured the final NHL point by Ron Duguay's hair.

From what I understand, back in those days NHL games were kind of like soccer games. Instead of having quick shifts, players stayed on the ice for very long periods of time. And instead of having regular line changes, they had a limited amount of substitutions they could do to replace a player

When Malone returned to the Canadiens for the 1922-23 season, he was a substitute - so he most likely saw very little ice time
