How would you feel? ( Dustin Brown )

Honestly? I wouldn't be all that crushed. I've never been a huge Brown fan. Love what he did for us winning the cup and the guy he is off the ice is amazing but if we can't re-sign him, get assets for him. It wouldn't be too far fetched to see 3 Russian LWers for us in the future. Zykov-Prokhorkin-Kitsyn. In that order.

Exactly how I feel, and I'd love if those 3 Russians panned out like that to boot but it might be a little premature to slot them on the Kings.

It definitely is too early but I'm a huge fan of Zykov and Porkins. And I think Kitsyn can be in the mix for that 3rd line LW job in the future with a few other guys like Mersch. I really like our LW pool now with Zykov in it.

Amazing how much things can change in a few months.

Yeah. Zykov was just an amazing pick and having Kitsyn back in the mix does a lot too. I see three possible top 6 LWers now with Zykov, Prokhorkin, and Pearson and then a few 3rd line prospects like Kitsyn and Mersch. I'm more than happy with our depth with those guys.

Why not. Not far-fetched at all. To me it seems like you disagree with him whatever he says.

Last time I checked a full NHL season has 82 games, not 92.

Thank you. The general rule is to attack the post, not the poster. That's what everyone does when I speak my mind about brown. Its like everyone goes into denial that brown really isn't that good and they go into flame hitman mode. Then I get an infraction for trolling or something (trolling my own team!). When will people wake up? Brown is not a top 6!

I'm still SO excited with Zykov. His potential is ridiculous and he clearly wants to play in the NHL. That's an awesome combo!

We don't attack you. We attack your absolutely warped idea of what a top 6 forward is. I've never been a Brown fan but he's definitely more than a 3rd line guy like you seem to think he is.

Then people start trolling my post because what I said about brown disrupts their entire universe. If you don't like what I say about something, then don't respond--ignore me! I'm not posting to try and get a response from people. I'm posting because I like to share my OPINION!!! An opinion, get it?! They're like *******s, everybody has one. Get off your computer and enjoy some damn sunshine for once powder.

Dustin Brown finished the season with 29 points in 48 games, good for 85th in the league in scoring among forwards. If you do the math (and I know this may be tough for you), there are 180 top six forward positions in the NHL. Of those 180 forwards, Brown came ahead of 95 other forwards. He had just as many points as Loui Eriksson. I guess Eriksson isn't a top six forward as well, right? He had more points than Backes, Doan, Gaborik, Lucic, Alfredsson, Perron, Clarkson, Burrows, Skinner, Selanne, Stastny, Nugent-Hopkins, Horton, Heatley, etc. Need I go on?

So, how is he not a top six forward? You are one of the most ill informed posters on here because you don't fact check and you have nothing constructive to say. That's why you get the type of responses that you deservedly get. Do some research, then post a well informed and thoughtful post that has a point.

I CAN QUOTE MYSELF TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep. And I've stated it every time I talk about Zykov: make a checklist of what the Kings want in a player. Zykov hits nearly every single one of them. He fits like a glove for what we're trying to do here. I'm excited to watch more games in the Q this year since we actually have a prospect there now.

See, I was going to go and look at where he ranked in points in the league and use this exact same logic but I was just way too lazy to defend Brown. Now if it was Lokti we were talking.... :sarcasm:

Brown finishes top 30 pretty much every year at his position. I would say that qualifies him as a top 6 player.

No one's attacking you and for anyone to think that, yourself included, is ill-informed. Your hate for Dustin Brown is amusing though; that's what I'm engaging.

Because he consistently throws Brown under the bus and makes outlandish claims like he's a third line player?

Eberle is untouchable to Edmonton and I HIGHLY doubt they'd trade him to LA, that's why.

That last one was my mistake. Simply multiplied by two forgetting the actual games played.
I dont think Eberle is untouchable to Edmonton at all. I'm not saying they must get rid of him but after having a possible career year, he's getting paid $6M until 2019/2020. He was putting up some numbers again in the 2nd half of this past season but things werent looking good in the beginning. He doesnt bring much else to the table either, aside from offense. If he doesnt score, than you get easily annoyed by him.

Brown will resign with the Kings but Edmonton really needs such a a player.

To call Brown a 3rd liner isnt extremely outlandish IMO but I wouldnt go that far. For a 1st line player he is rather invisible for large parts of the season though. Pure skillwise he's a 2nd liner at best but luckily he does more than just scoring goals.

I'm not that anti-Brown anymore because he stepped up big time when the Kings won the Cup. Yet, its difficult to swallow that Brown will get something around $5.5-$6M. Some of those UFA signings were ridiculous.

There's more to a player than stat line. Brown is the team captain, he's a part of a tight core of players and trading him would be a mistake

All these talks of Zykov/Kitsyn etc are a little premature. Of all the "huge potential" these guys are, 36 times teams passed on drafting Zykov and 157 times on Kitsyn (including the 4 times by the Kings). Yes, they can develop into very good NHL player, but they are far, very far, from making Dustin Brown expendable

Brown is a second line player. In a perfect world both of Kopitar's wingers are. If Kopitar had an elite sniper on his wing, I believe we'd see less of his "disappearing acts" as his dip it production could be offset by another player. Regardless though, I love that top line and it has everything - toughness, world class talent, brains, and heart.

And my trade remark was purely my idea on asset management and not my opinions regarding Brown as a player. I still say he retires a King.

I think you can count on one hand how many forwards have had 20+G 50+p and been in the top Five for hits every year over the last Five years.

Aside from this short season, Brown is one of them. You don't trade a player like that, unless your Franchise is going broke.

Brown will get north of 5.5 and deserves every penny of it.

Just like Quick deserved his raise.

I guess it depends on the return, but how many players like Brown are out there? The Kings aren't going to let go of their modern day version of Dave Taylor.

Love it. :handclap:

Brown is part of a very very tight core. If you are trading away him or letting him walk then it is the signal of something pretty serious. It'd be like the Red Wings dealing Zetterberg. That's not just a trade or a free agent loss. That's a culture changer.

You're looking at things from a vacuum. While were at it, what kind of chemistry do you think eriksson provides for his linemates? How much space does he create and how many seams does he open up? PP contribution? Look at things from the aspect of the entire league.

I would be sad. He is the heart of this team. I hope he will be a King forever. There aren't many players I'd trade Brown for.

Great post. And not even a little premature.. it's a lot.

I just want to point out even if our LW are as good as the hype, It's still a few years away and brown can move back to RW. What makes brown so valuable is with his type of game he can play either side on any of the top 3 lines and be successful. Trading him is not Io use best interest of the team.

Unless its severe over payment, he's not going anywhere.
