how would I feel ?
on my own.
a complete unknown.
with no direction home
like a rolling stone.

Hypothetically though if something drastic happens, like the cap falls again somehow, and Brown is dealt for young players and assets, who gets the C?

IF Sutter is the coach, it's his call, to the player he determines to be the best qualified, the best leader, the player that the others players not only respect but would be inspired by, play hard for.
Right now, Richards has the best pedigree, not only a natural born leader but has (to steal from Bob McKenzie) 'more team trophy hardware than anyone playing the sport for a reason'. Leading is something he's always been good at .

He's had a C on his jersey at various levels of his career and excelled, but even if he never gets another on one a jersey, he's always had one on his chest, that won't change.

But Brown isn't leaving , so that's one issue Sutter won't have to decide upon.

I'd rather sign him but if you can't then only if you are getting something really good. He's a core player that led this franchise to it's first Cup.

And if they did trade him and they needed to put the C on someone, they would probably offer it to Richards. Kopitar doesn't really strike me as a Captain and Greene would be good but I think it might depend if he can stay healthy from now on.

But yeah, I don't see any of that happening. I think Brown gets resigned once the cap goes up next year.

Depends on who the return is but in general, i'd be pretty disappointed.

I do question brown's leadership in "the room." Not sold on his leadership abilities, at least he's not the first person that comes to mind when I think of leadership in hockey.

I try not to get attached to players. I wouldn't be happy about it though. It would be like up and trading Dave Taylor or something. He's a King for the long haul and has given everything to the organization. He is the perfect role model for this team. I don't think you can really put a price on that, and I am sure Dean feels similarly. Dean would if he had to, but for now he doesn't want to consider putting a price on his #1 character guy.

This is how I feel too ^.

I stood right by Marcel when he was traded to the Rangers and when he cried I got choked up too. He said he always thought he would be a King for his entire career and so did I. Then when Davie retired I felt proud to be a Kings fan because I was able to celebrate his career from start to finish and knew that I had seen something special.

I know it is selfish but I want everyone who follows the team to be able to experience this with DB when the time comes. I think he will have his name on at least one more cup with us during his career and can't see any reason to deal him.

That said everyone can be traded and if it were to happen it wouldn't change everything that DB has brought to the team, it would just delay the celebration.

Brown was amazing last year. He sort of carried the first line. He's really hitting his prime. I think Kopitar healthy and normal next year would set up brownie for a great season.

I like Brown a lot. He's the prime definition of a king, and he's a captain too. You can't trade that.

He was on pace for 36 goals and 58 points. Our entire offense was substantially better. Just not in the post season.

I'm sure that line will rebound. I hope Sutter keeps them together.

As surprising it is, Dustin Brown is known for garbage goals. But man he scored some howitzers this season. I really think he found the right stick and worked his shot because I saw some snipes that I never saw from him

Yeah, his shot has been great. Just needed more from Kopitar. I'm sure he'll rebound and that line will catch fire again. I'm just hoping they are left alone. I love Toffoli, but I don't really want to experiment with the top 6 outside of the second line left wing.

It all depends on how it'd end, would it be another Blake situation where he turns in his C and everything. Or we get a new owner who refuses to pay him, too many variables. But I'd probably lean toward sadness. Brown would be the first actual part of our winning core that left.

Brown demolishes opponents, he draws penalties, he can score dirty goals, he can find loose pucks in front of the net, he can also rip shots through, and he's used in every situation, PP, PK, up a goal, down a goal, last minute of a game, etc. How are the Kings going to be able to replace all of that?

I've been a harsh critic of Brown in the past, but I'd like to think that I'm fair and a realist when I say that as frustrating as Brown could be at times (and the same can be said about Kopitar and Williams and Richards and Carter and Doughty and Quick and what have you), you cannot replace him. He's a unique player that brings a lot to the table that many other wingers can't provide. Clutterbuck can hit but he can't put the puck in the net like Brown does. Eberle can score, but he can't hit or play the PK or play the front of the net.

As we witnessed in the playoffs, you need guys like Brown to win physical battles. Go look at the previous Cup winning teams and they mostly had a physical top six winger who can score and hit. Guys like Bickell, Lucic, Ladd, Guerin, Holmstrom, Kunitz, Cole, Modin, Langenbrunner, C. Lemieux, Keane, all have their names on the Cup, and all of those listed wingers were not known for being highly skilled goal scorers. They played an abrasive game, got under the opponents skin, bought room for their far more talented line mates, and got the job done when somebody had to step their game up physically. Brown does that. And some of you want to remove that from the Kings?

Some people just don't get it Ziggy.

Bottom line, this is a GREAT team. A GREAT one. Why? Because all the ****ing pieces fit, just about perfectly. That is what makes a team great. Not individual talent, meshed together (see Penguins, Pittsburgh).

This team has a legit shot at winning multiple Cups. I wouldn't change a thing. Losing Scuds was tough, but we are still good as presently constituted.

I'd be super pissed off at Lombardi for making such an obvious brain fart. Brown would easily garner Eberle.

Lombardi's job is to always make whatever deals he can to improve the team.

That being said, I don't think Brown is going anywhere.

Why not. Not far-fetched at all. To me it seems like you disagree with him whatever he says.

Last time I checked a full NHL season has 82 games, not 92.

Because he consistently throws Brown under the bus and makes outlandish claims like he's a third line player?

Eberle is untouchable to Edmonton and I HIGHLY doubt they'd trade him to LA, that's why.

That last one was my mistake. Simply multiplied by two forgetting the actual games played.

If we don't sign him to an extension soon, we will lose him to free agency. We will have another Scuderi situation on our hands. Tim Lieweke is licking his chops for a chance to sign him, Leafs have 39,000 000 in cap space next year.

I don't expect the Kings to nickel and dime Brown before next summer, with what Clarkson and others got, Brown's market is clearly set at around 6. I would be pretty pissed if the Kings let him walk, especially with how he took a discount last time and the fact that they overpaid to keep much lesser players like Regehr and Stoll.

I fully expect Brown to re-sign for something like 6 years, 35 million.
