Elon has f***ed up twitter again
yup
Don't hold me to this but It seems this stopping of the embedding of tweets is on purpose . Elon likely sees it as a source of revenue. Different sites / blog technologies have experienced this over the past months. Not a huge improvement over the large tweet is unavailable but we can put fx or vx in front of twitter.com in the url to render a clickable link

but its not a position to fail. its already a lost season. Alfie wants to be a coach this is real world experience for him, and there is a interim tag to say you are just filling in till we get the guy.
I agree it is a lost season. I wouldn't bring in a new coach to save this season.

My goal is to improve player performance, establish a better defensive awareness, etc. These goals might not be a quick fix.

If you agree with these goals would it not be better to bring in more of a sure thing?

Providing coaching experience to Alfredsson is at best a secondary goal for me. I'm glad he is in a teaching role now.

Berube who took over on nov 19 2018 was dead last jan 3 2019 with ST Louis and won the cup that year
Maybe he's our only hope

Maybe

Nevermind we are the Ottawa Senators lol

We are entering "Miracle on Ice" territory if the Sens squeeze into the playoffs this season.
Oh to be a fly on the wall and listen in on MA and SS"s conversations after another gut wrenching loss!
As much as I would like to see a new voice in the room I can't see it happening until a GM is in place
(as has been metioned before) and they completely revamp the coaching staff with their people after consultation with Staios and MA.
This may speed up the hiring of a GM.

Every day that DJ is still this team's coach becomes ever more absurd. No other org in NHL history would have insisted on keeping someone around so long with so little success or growth. We're seeing this young group of players steadily regress yet the people in charge continue to insist that "stability" is more important.

It's all a big ol' joke being played on the fanbase.

My guess is that unless Martin accepts an interim coaching position they will keep DJ until the new GM.
My guess is that the HC will be replaced during this season as the pressure mounts and ticket sales fall due to losses.

Bruins fan coming in peace.
Gotta think DJ has like 1-2 games left at this point eh?
3-7-0 in their last 10. How is this guy still behind the bench?
Dorion should not have extended DJ when he did. The problem has existed for a few seasons now.

The amazing part of “growing pains” or “not a talented enough core” over the early years of building the roster is that the ONE THING he (DJ) could control is having a group of players that knew exactly what they should be doing defensively and where to be at all times.
There is just no excuse for what’s happening in the ice.

You don’t wait until the talent is there and start talking about accountability and discipline.
As far as I’m concerned it’s almost been 5 wasted years.
He taught them to work hard for a few years but even that isn’t really very evident anymore.
He may have taught them how to play happy & hard; however, he failed at teaching them how to play smart and successfully!

...

“ The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results”

Yes, let's keep Smith on.

Please.

Hiring Gallant as HC for a 1 or 2 year contract might be helpful. He has had success elsewhere although he seems to have a short shelf life.

If we wait till the summer, next year becomes the transition year and we're still going to be shit, although improving. Hire a coach now and let the remainder of this year be the transition so that we can actually try to compete next year.

My favourite soccer team hired my favourite soccer player as a coach (a club legend, very comparable to Alfie) while they were shit and wanted a bit of stability. He didn't have much coaching experience and the team sucked under him. The fans turned on him, despite him having god like status there. Never would I want that again to any of my teams.

I use to work at a sales job where I had no business being there. My performance was shit and they had no restraints when it came to letting people go.

I never got fired and ended up leaving on my own eventually.

I knew how to suck up to my bosses, buy them gifts, food, etc.

I was basically DJ smith

From an article by The Athletic's St. Louis beat reporter:

Berube doesn’t know what his next stop will be, but it will be in coaching.
“I’ve got to give it some thought,” he said. “I want to make sure I’m going to a good organization. You want to work with good people, and you always want an opportunity to win. I want to coach, but I want to make sure that it’s the right situation.
“If you get a call, and it’s this year, then you’ve got to look at it and assess the situation and really do your due diligence on things. So I’m open-minded right now, but at the same time, I’m going to take a back-step here for a little bit.”

I wonder if the Senators look like a good opportunity to him.

I hate working with people like you so much lol.

I don't disagree, one caveat though. It has only been 1/4 season of evaluating all aspects of the organization for this management group.

Their timelime is very different than the continuity of losing that we as Sens fans have endured.

My guess is management is just going to run the course and just let the team play and asses everything. Consider bringing in a new coach but not a GM until after the season to see who's available. They have no emotional ties to any of the players. So if they want they could blow up the core (probably won't) and rebuild through the draft the way they want to build.

I'd like to see Roy come in and start working with Jacques Martin. I think that could be a strong foundation and a passionate coaching team. They both have their flair to bring to the game and even have Alfie working more on the ice with the players.

He is just like Dj, a player friendly coach that refuses to make adjustments when things go bad. The only difference is that Gallant can install a good system, it is just not a system that has long term success. He also never says anything bad about the team whenever they lose badly. LIke when the Knights actually played like shit, Gallant would ignore it and think it was actually a good game for them when it really wasn't. I think he did the same thing with the Rangers.

So f*** no to Gallant.

Said it before, but Andlauer simply should have let DJ go at the same time as Dorion, rip the band-aid off at once.

"The team has not been performing at the expected level the last 2 seasons" would have been the perfect reason.
A thought keeps sneaking into my head. I think they planed to ride the season with Dorion and DJ. Because the sale took so long they where unable to make the changes they wanted. The new GM and coaches may very well be already chosen, just unable to be hired. Let's say Dorion didn't botch the Vegas trade and was still here. They might have fired him after the Florida game. "Do to the underwhelming performance of the club recently, Pierre Dorion has been relieved as GM of the Ottawa Senators Hockey Club. The organization feels a different approach to the evaluation of the team is needed to achieve the success that the fans deserve. Thank you Pierre...blah, etc, etc. Search will begin..etc." That would have been a message to the team, players more than coaches. Dorion getting fired for being a dummy had no effect on the team, it was just another day for them. Since Dorion removed that bullet from the gun, it kind of adds another layer to keeping DJ. If they fire DJ now, so what? Interim Coach, so what? I don't think there is much impact. When they bring in a new GM and Coach, with long term deals, that will have an impact. Those guys are here. Here for the long haul. Get it together or you won't be. It's a forceful, long term move that changes the fundamentals of the organization.

This could is probably all hog wash because I also have sneaky thoughts like "Why does purple gatorade change the colour of your poo, but other gatorades don't change the colour?"
