Back to .500, and gained a little ground on the two teams currently in the two WCPO spots. With wins vs Detroit, in regulation, it also helps if a tie breaker comes into play at the end of the season.

If DJS hopes to get a little more rope, he needs more games, like last night, over the next few weeks.

For those that don't understand how a coaching change (@swiftwin ) can effect a team or still don't understand why people want a coaching change in Ottawa:

Edm is 6-0. Minny is 5-2

I do like bringing in Martin though

In the spirit of fairness, they probably identified this a while back.

What they figured out, likely thanks to Martin, is how to fix it.
Nope, it happened prior, as discussed by players and DJ.
JM will help in improving even more though.

It wasnt rocket science as to where they needed to improve. Mostly at the blue lines which has resulted in way more posession. Breaking out has been better but that has alot to do with puck support. Greig is also really good at retaining and getting posession.

Yeah I mean I dont know if the coachs are telling them to do much different. I am sure they didnt wawnt them turning pucks over at the blue lines the way they were. Just seems like the message was falling on deaf ears. Maybe the ass kicking by the Panthers woke them up as much as the adjustments. Getting embarrassed can really help change someones perspective. Just hope they keep it up and they dont go back to playing lazy selfish hockey like before. 5 really strong games in a row. With more puck luck and less hot opposition goaltending they could easily be 5-0.

Really took our sweet ass time to figure this out.

Wouldn’t surprise me if Jacques was getting slightly involved earlier and as a result there was this ‘system adjustment’ that we’re seeing. Seems too coincidental that the team officially hired him after those 3 games since the tweak

lol yeah I don’t buy it. However it was done, Martin is there for a reason

You don’t like facts I guess, then, even when Jacques says he was first contacted after.

I mean I could take the at face value but for the first time in 4.5 years, we’re now hearing about a ‘systems tweak’? This is the first time we’ve ever been privy to it and odd that Martin just came along and everyone seems to smell some type of blood in the water if JM is the insurance policy…I don’t believe a word anyone says that is merely protecting egos. Just like Dorion ‘resigned’ lol

Earth is flat too.

I think the two things talked about seem to be exits and hanging on to the puck longer in the O zone.

DJ has been talking about hanging onto the puck longer for a while. He's mentioned it several times.

I think with Norris rounding into form and with Greig back, both are easier to do. Both play well in our end, get low and support the breakout. And Ridly balances the offense and really helps the 3rd line.

It's as much a coming together as anything for me. We could see stretches of really good hockey earlier in the season. Hopefully with this balance we've got now, we can get on a roll. We need an 8-2 run to get firmly back in this thing.

How much rope does DJ have? Judging by Staios' latest comments, his rope is as long as Nick Paul's.
Adding Jacques suggest differently in my opinion. More than anyone Capuano needs to be worried I think. Adding Jacques as the d coach and replacing him seems like something that could very well happen. That probably already should have happened imho.

I think Jacques' position in the org (in terms of influence with Staios and the front office) is higher than DJ's. I wouldn't expect him to move to the bench as part of DJ's staff.

He's here to help stabilize the team through the rest of the year, evaluate the current coaching staff/players, and ultimately, support/advise Staios and the new GM in choosing who coaches this team next season.
