You don't get to be in the position Andlauer is in by being reactive and short term. This year will pass either way. There is probably a minimal difference between an interim and riding DJ out for the rest of the year. I'm sure they prefer a much more thorough vetting and hiring process in the summer. After all, they don't even have a GM at the moment.

Firing DJ has zero to do with being reactive. It's something that needed to get done long ago. Just because he just took over as owner doesn't mean he should let things go to shit for another season, knowing the fanbase has already suffered for the last 3 years watching this team go exactly nowhere.

Only on HF do I see people arguing in favor of wasting another season.

I don't think any organization that has a POHO fully allows the GM to make the final decision on a coach. It's very much a group call. This is a new position its essentially the GM with less day to day work and more guidance to all levels of the hockey ops. They do not need GM to hire a new coach. The GM should also be evaluating the team and its personnel for a while before making the decision. This teams current core are regressing at a rate that is shocking. Horrible habits and a loser mentality has completely kicked in. They need to make a change now before more players go the way of Chabot and Batherson.

I doubt staios thinks this. And I doubt andlauer watches much sens hockey and definitely didn’t watch much before he bought the team.

The team looks well on its way to Hall/Eberle/Yakupov Oilers

This is worse than the Oilers. The Oilers players were just not that good.

Our players are actually good, we are stacked. They just play disgusting selfish hockey.

From a losing and bad habits/player regression standpoint yeah its really starting to look like that. This teams core is better and from a competitiveness standpoint they are better. however if this isnt changed now it could fester for too long. The lack of accountability and lack of depth to apply it have been going hand and hand for a while. To me this is on Dorion as much as DJ. D.J is simply too nice for his own good. If he has a vote of confidence from the GM i think he should get moving on a D coach replacement and maybe special teams.

Cash flow still matters. This is the most expensive Senators team ever iced, and with the cap increasing, the pressure to spend will continue to increase.

Andlauer isn't wealthy enough to cover the team's losses while waiting to recoup his investment when he eventually sells the team in 15, 20 or 25 years.

And I doubt that the large group of partners he's taken on will be excited about cash calls to cover any year to year losses.

He needs to sell tickets. He needs to rebuild the brand.

This has been a disastrous start. Not his fault, certainly, but he does need to act quickly, IMO.

Yeah but maybe they anticipated a "slow start" who knows? Maybe the saw the 1st year as a "write off" but at the same time, season tickets aren't bad at all I think?

What is the Evenko equivalent in Ottawa? Is it 100% owned by Andlauer and his group?

Evenko's annual revenue is like 150 M$

I think his first year was yakupovs last
I think Nurse's 1st year was the 2013-14 season but only played 2 regular season games that season. Yakapov last season with the Oilers was 2015-16 (played 60 games). So Nurse probably wasn't the best defender in that one overlapping 2014-15 season I would "guess".

That’s our guy! Everything is fine, 8-9 is good!

Some of the private/proprietary data paints a different picture. Mike Kelly was on Shawn Simpson's podcast a few days ago and he says that the Sens grade out pretty strong defensively using SportLogiq's numbers. That's the company the Sens hired Sean Tierney from, so if he's using the same data set he's probably telling DJ that things are getting better.

They probably weigh passes across the median more heavily than other models. It seems to me the Sens are preventing that better than before.

sportLogiq also uses arguably a better data collection means, they aren't using the NHL real time data which has issues with rink bias, but rather AI reviewing the video.

I suspect the quality of the sportLogiq stuff is better, but who knows, since they are transparent the way the open source stuff tends to be.

Does it matter? They’re just as bad. They’re just names. Results on the ice don’t seem too too different.
Are they just as bad? Not so sure about that, the three full seasons Yakupov was in edm for they had 67, 62 and 70 pts. We have 73, 86 and TBD.

Sure but it didn't, doing so in the middle of the season is by definition reactive, it is what it is.

You're looking at this at a fan perspective, which I don't blame you. A coaching change also doesn't mean we automatically play well. What happens if we play worse? Your players get alienated and the locker room goes to shit.

Who are you going to hire this offseason? There's not much pickings out there. Are you going to hire a GM first? Are you going to go with an interim coach? You're definitely not going to have a full hiring process. Who's going to come in knowing they'll probably be fired in the offseason? What if your interim coach does well? Do you keep him at the end of the season considering you haven't run a full hiring process? Do you keep him knowing it might've been a fluke? That's not considering the fact that you still have to bring in a GM. Will he want his own coach? etc. etc.

Management side of things it's 100x more messy firing DJ at this point. Considering that implementing a new system in the middle of the season is pretty much impossible, the gamble that this team will do much better rather than worse is probably worth the millions spent in breaking contracts, hiring someone, and then breaking their contract again this offseason.

Andlauer just spent half a billy. If he thinks that this season can crash and burn if it means running a proper process and having a better chance of hiring the right GM/coach in the offseason, he's not even going to blink.

The argument here isn't that DJ isn't bad or needs to go, but firing him now is another gamble during a season where we already got players suspended, a GM fired, the team captain calling out fans, and where we lost a pick. I would love for DJ to be fired, but this is just the reality from managements point of view.
