Momentum swings in games. Teams push. In the Detroit game ya they certainly gave up 4 in a period. A few lucky bounces for that to happen.

Then they lost at home to the New York Islanders who were playing 4 d men and a backup goalie. And I suspect another blunder tonight. This team is very predictable.

Where did that team go? They looked incredible. I truly thought that they were on the right track.
 
I'm tired of the supposed to have won shit. Advanced numbers don't matter anymore. Put up or shut up time.

I fear this team just doesn't have what it takes as constructed, even with Chabot back. A loss tonight would have the panic setting in all over again, if it isn't already.

Advanced numbers mean nothing for past games, but they matter for predicting future games.

Not to intentionally pile on (too much), the Wild just made a coaching change. Maybe they were so embarrassed that the Senators beat them (OK, that part is a joke ....... mostly).

The best numbers (stats) are Wins & Losses. The important point & theme of the post you replied to had the correct sentiment i.e., it's time to put up or shut up. I can't blame anyone for thinking that.

Evason is a good coach, but hard on the players.

Our soft, coddled team that has never even been benched for a shift, let alone games probably couldn't handle a coach like Evason.

He's demanding and all about playing a tight defensive system, which was on display for a few years, but this year they are lost, maybe Evason's shelf life ran out, which happens to tough demanding coaches and today's soft players.

I'll also add that Evason had no playoff success, maybe he pushes too hard, and the team is worn out and doesn't have another level when the playoffs start.

Probably not our ideal choice.

I'm making a more simple point. Senator fans only want to see one kind of stat or number = WINS. It's long overdue. Fans wanted that in the past, but it's too late for that. Past or future, it boils down to only one thing.

Very bad PK as well. And, they aren't getting much support in the scoring dept as well. Kaprizov, Boldy are forwards having bad years. Spurgeon was injured and is having a bad year (his numbers are way off).

Maybe so, but there just seems to be something missing with this team. Lack of killer instinct. I dunno, but I'm going to need to see wins stacked to believe in anything at this point. Watching this team all of this year is just not giving me confidence they're destined for much more than this. By the eye test it's not like they're out there dominating teams and losing anyways, so I don't know what those stats are telling us.

I'm still hoping for the best, but starting to feel like they're just spinning their wheels that might come within spitting distance again.

The caveat is that we get league average goaltending and finishing. We've been massively lucky with our high finishing % so far, what's going to happen when it reverts to the mean and our goaltending is still bottom of the league?

Not a lot of margin for error for us. Whatever it is about this team, goalies perform bad here. I see our finishing % come back down to earth much more likelier than our goaltending improving.
