I think the idea is that Andlauer will hire a new GM first and then allow the GM to help pick the coach.

WOW, why don’t people not understand, that the Owner has hired someone to run the day to day operations of the hockey side of the franchise?

Why do people think NHL owners hire GMs or Coaches?

Steve Staios will seek out, interview and hire the next GM… that is his job, not the owners job.

We just got over too many years of having a meddling owner, involving themselves in the hockey operations and there were thousands of posts in this thread against the practice of an owner sticking their nose into the hockey operations…..why do some people seem to want this new owner to do what they ranted against the previous owner doing?

Staios is the interim GM. If it were up to Staios then Staios would be the new GM of the team. The owner usually hires and fires the management positions. Jeezzz

Wrong… You always see the POHO, during news conferences, when a GM is fired or hired, masking the announcement.

IF Staios wanted to be the GM, would have not takeen the POHO position ….

Did Brendan Shanahan make the call in Toronto or was it the owner?

Ken Holland just canned the coach in Edmonton, not the owner.

General Manager Patrik Allvin And President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford of the Canucks announced the hiring of Rick Tocchet, not the owner…..because the owner hired a POHO and a GM to make those decisions

Wow… unbelievable.

Okay, I didn't know all of that.

I thought Staios was just promoted from within and would be replaced in time.

What has Staios done that made Andlauer want to hire him?

He was the GM of Andlauers Junior team. They used to dream about this situation, and now they are living it!

Staios will hire the guy they have heir eye on for the GM job in the off season (Darche?) and whenever that person is will likely hire the coaching staff.

So Staios' credibility, at least in the NHL, has yet to be determined.

That's a tough first test. Searching for a good GM. But, like you said, they have someone in the crosshairs.

Correct, and agreed! At least Andlauer is a veteran NHL owner, and Staios has a long NHL career as a player, good experience in the top job in junior, and some NHL exec experience of various lower levels.

Here’s hoping!!!!!

2 weeks ago, no one here knew anything of the Dadonov trade eff up, and the subsequent loss of a first rounder…..
Didn't matter he was never sticking around here. He doesn't have the character that Andlauer and Staios want leading this organization. They were always going to hire someone else. But PD did what he does best and blunders. He just speed up the inevitable. There's more Dorion fall out coming.

Before hiring a new coach I am sure the new management wants to get to know this team. That doesn't happen over night. Certain coach's are better fits with certain groups. I am sure they are evaluating the team and trying to figure out what type of coach they need. Then they'll look at what's available.

Now I don't know if Staios does hire a GM before he hires a new coach. But I do know they are not only looking for a GM but another assistant and more scouts. Staios and Bowness both have their hands full they are serious under manned.... ;)

Bowness is basically doing 2 peoples jobs right now. So unless the sens go absolutely nuclear and they are forced to hire a new coach I think that it's unlikely it happens as soon as many people want it to. As big or if not the bigger priority is filling hockey ops with the right people.

But Staois is the GM so he might just hire the new coach himself when the times comes.

If DJ a loses both games in Sweden he’s not coming back with a job, will need a new coach

They have a history of working together, and having success, with Andlauers OHL franchise the Hamilton Bulldogs, where he was President and GM of the team that won the OHL Championship twice, in 2018 and 2022, and he also won the General Manager of the Year, for the 2021-2022 Season…… So they’ve shared some success in the past….the eventual hiring Staios was common knowledge/speculation once Andlauer became the new owner….it was not if, but when would Staios join Andlauer in Ottawa.

I don’t think Staios will hire a new head coach before he hires a new GM…. Why would he handcuff the new GM with a Coach selected by the POHO?

GMs have always been given the responsibility to hire their Head Coach….So if there is a coaching change before a new GM is named, Staios will only bring in an interim coach, and when he hires a GM, he will allow them to pick the new full time head coach.

I don't think so either but if the sens go on a wild losing streak staios might have to. I think whoever picks the coach it will be a group decision.

If he cuffs himself to Alfie, they couldn't possibly get rid of him. DJ's one of the smartest coaches in the league.

DJ is a nice guy, and I want him to succeed. But it's mind-boggling that he can't teach these guys to defend at all.

It took guys like Jacques Martin and Rick Tocchet like 2 months to teach horrible defensive teams how to defend. At least bring in an experienced assistant coach that's responsible for systems, not Jack Capuano.

Maybe Alfie can teach them?

I didn't exactly enjoy the turn of events, but no way was that DJ's last game. They aren't canning him in the middle of this tour with games left to play.
