Claude was pretty definitive DJ wasn’t going anywhere, sounds like SS might have told the team that. Would make sense if he did, as he said after PD gone, Sens need some stability now.
We have seen this play out before; the coach is not going anywhere, until he is out the door!

I think you're creating a bit of a false equivalence here, we signed Talbot to be our number 1, Forsberg was here to be a good back up, imo of course. He missed a few games, sure, but we went 4-2 with him out, few if any was using him as the reason we struggled in Nov, most of which he was back for anyway, it was when Zub and Norris went down that we struggled and it was our lack of depth on D and at center that people pointed to as the issue. Perhaps Talbot added to it, but he maybe missed two games he otherwise would have played during the skid?

Adversity is when you don't have an equivalent to step in, or guys need to up there game to fill a void, even if we call Talbot and Vanecek 1b guys, it's not really facing adversity when you have someone right there that's just about as good.

We signed Forsberg to a 3-year deal worth $2.75M per. That's not backup money and never was intended to be. After the Talbot trade, Dorion said, "The tandem of him and Anton Forsberg sets us up nicely for the upcoming year." The plan was for always there to be a split of games. It's not like we went out and got Hellebyuck.

We can debate levels of adversity all we want, but every team goes through some. Was/is ours particularly tough? Absolutely. I don't think the Devils had or have it tougher, that's for sure.

Nor am I expecting this team to win as many games as the Devils did last year, or will this year. They're way better.

With that said, you have to be able to play through injuries.

The Lightning lost their #1 goalie and are playing with a guy nobody's ever heard of in net. They're not feeling too sorry for themselves, and they crushed us on Saturday. The Leafs were without 2 of their top 6 yesterday. They went out and beat the Lightning. Montreal is dealing with all sorts of injuries. They're ahead of us.

I don't expect us to be 8-2 or anything like that. But 5-3-2 would have been nice. Maybe beat one of Buffalo or Detroit? From what I recall, the only guy of note missing in those games was Zub. Chabot played. Greig played. Brannstrom played. Norris played. Is losing one guy too much to overcome?

I could do without the crying in the media, as well.

Effectively the fans booing and wanting to fire DJ is the fans holding them accountable for their play, which doesn't seem to be happening behind the scenes.

It's clear to me that they aren't used to being held accountable otherwise they wouldn't be complaining to the media about being boo'd. If anything getting boo'd by some fans should be easier to deal with than what the coaching staff is telling them behind the scenes.

But this group doesn't seem to like being told that it isn't the puck's fault, or the ice, or luck, or the refs or the fans... it's your fault that you suck. That's what booing means... and they don't like it.
Sounds like a bunch of spoiled kids who think they're hot shit when they haven't proven anything yet.

They need a disciplinarian and a good teacher as a coach not another buddy.

Patrick Roy was seen in Kanata in a spring restaurant. I never usually give out information like this. Funny time to be in Kanata"Martian

He's got the 39th highest cap hit among goalies, how is that not backup money? Teams need two guys, your starter can't play 82, Forsberg was signed to give the 30 starts,

And yes, we can argue levels of adversity, there was a world of difference between the two, one faced it the other didn't. Credit where it's due, NJ played well, but they simply didn't face a tone of adversity that season. You can't fault them for that, and you can credit them for doing well when Marino did go down, but your comparing apples to oranges when comparing how they responded to getting booed, it's just not the same situation.

And again, I'm not saying we did well in the face of adversity, i just think the context matters. People want to pretend it doesn't, but it does.

Yeah I'm not sure what you're arguing. This team was absolutely crippled by injuries last season. I agree.

But it's not uncommon for pro sports teams to get booed. It is uncommon for players to react in the media like Tkachuk and Giroux did. That's why it's such a news story.

And I'm not sure what the excuse is for the Detroit and Buffalo losses, with a near-healthy lineup, which really pissed off the fanbase, but I'm sure there is one. If they win even one of those games, they probably don't get booed just yet.

We'll see how they respond tomorrow.

I wonder if Roy is more interested in a GM role, isn't he dual hat in Quebec?

I think his dispute with Sakic and resulting departure had to do with him wanting more control over the roster.

Pretty sure you are correct and it is possible he would be interested in a different role than coach. That said he did interview for the coaching job in Montreal. And had this to say in the summer.

“He (Andlauer) was at the table when I interviewed for the head coaching job in Montreal”.

I think Roy is too volatile for this franchise & maybe this ownership group. You want someone who isn't going to explode & last longer than a season or two in either job.
You would hope that Staios is talking to potential replacements so that he’s ready if necessary when the team returns from Sweden.

We'll see. It wouldn't surprise me if he stays in the role for the remainder of the season & either finds someone in the off season after the draft & free agent day or stays in it himself. That might give him a great deal of insight on how this team operates, drafts or used to & how they select free agents which has been a complaint on here for a while. They could also have had someone in mind for a while & are just waiting for the right time to introduce them, who knows.

Doing the job could help him a lot to know what is required with this franchise, what is working & what is not, who is helpful & pulling their weight & who is not throughout the org. We'll see if they select someone during the season or after it, but my guess is afterwards.
