In 7 games, they've been outshot once. They have not quit on DJ. They looked plenty hungry last night. They were just beat by one of the best goalies in the world.
There’s talent there. I think this team can easily just miss the playoffs based on talent alone. Like last year

You're right, statistics don't win hockey games.

However, they can be predictors of future performance.

There are 7 games behind us, and 75 games ahead of us. At this point in the season, I'm more concerned with our future performance than our past performance.
One is indicative of the other.

k thanks.

Weird post.
What I found weird was that someone thought “better performers of the preseason like Smejkal and Jarventie weren't on the starting roster” …… when a team is right up against the Cap ceiling, some choices are made because of Cap constraints and not on preseason performance especially when the players mentioned have limited NHL experience and also playing on the NA sized rinks.

ok?

I don't even know why you're posting this.

1) Cap constraint issues this season were entirely self inflicted, so I don't care about that reason. Regardless, it still shows the best players filling out the bottom of the lineup don't play.

2) Chartier has limited NHL experience himself so it's a moot point.

Can't wait until Smith and Dorion are fired.

Next.

Everyday I wake up hoping for news on a DJ firing.
Yes, but it's like that sign behind the bar that says: "Free beer tomorrow". You come back to the bar again the next day, and the sign is still there. LOL.

WE HAD AN AWESOME START!!!

What is with all this false narative! We were 1st in the Atlantic. We won 3 out of 4. It is time to relax now.
LOL. Not sure if this is a serious post, but a start is 4 games now as opposed to 7?

We are tied for last place in the division currently after our "7 game start".

Sarcasm ;)

I remember when Guy Boucher was here he was suggesting it takes half a season at least for the new system to become 2nd nature. How fast could a new coach really change things. Maybe some new defensive positioning tweaks could help, but this young and now injured again team still needs time to grow. It seems unfair to expect that they should suddenly be much better. Hopefully this adversity is the foundation from which springs a new resilience.

But accountability i would think has to be to your team mates. If accountability to team mates isnt enough, im thinking the team probably cant get there.

I'd guess the idea or question is how good is this group (core) of players really? Yes, we have some talent, but is it enough talent to be an upper echelon team/Cup winner, and how does it compare to other teams, some of which have also accumulated talent and are on their way up? It can take some time to answer that question, but after a bunch of time elapses, then that question or doubt grows louder.

Which is why is was a mistake to not fire DJ last season, but hey, you can't keep chasing bad money.

I'm hoping a new coach starts to reduce individual player bad habits (assuming there are some) as soon as possible, however long it takes for the good habits to become second nature.
Individual habits and overall system might be two different things.

None of the best coaches in history across any sports were heavy player coaches

Will he have consequences more severe than hugging your best friend post game? If so then yes. Get him
You’re looking back when you need to look forward.

Past players are not like todays generation of players, and they make this distinction in the media all the time.

Paradigms shift. Intimidation and fear have never been the best motivational tools, and they are even less now at a time when the players have become the league and are far more important to a team than the coach.

Eyes on the future man, that’s where the next legendary coaches are.

If it comes down to one game as to whether he's fired or not then he should just be fired
Well it won’t be from just one game. Eventually enough is enough, and a 4 game losing streak to teams you’re directly competing with is enough imo.

With so many injuries and holes in the lineup to be filled with new faces, now is the perfect time for a shakeup. New coaches, new direction, new tactics.

This team when whole can win on talent and heart alone. With so many missing pieces, they will have to rely on structure, hustle, compete, and attention to detail in order to stay in the hunt until the team is whole again. All that has been sporadic at best under this coaching team.

Time for a new regime and new voices.

I think the rope has run out for Dorion and DJ .. Its just about optics and timing now. Both are dead men walking. Neither should last the year imo but Staios and Andlauer may give them longer.

I like to believe Andlauer has a plan and makes well-considered decisions. My 100% speculation is that the main factor now is who he wants as GM and the timing of getting that person. Replacing Dorion should precede hiring a new coach I'd think.

Admittedly I don't know the responsibilities of Staios versus a GM with respect to hiring coaches, scouting staff, etc.

I know that in the past here the GM has chosen some of the associate coaches, and the coach has chosen some others.

It’s interesting because the GM can choose an associate that he thinks may develop into a head coach, or at least a guy who can step up if the head coach needs to be fired.
