It will probably impact teams like Winnipeg, Ottawa, and Calgary the most. Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver wont have much issue attracting Free Agents that they desire because they're still all excellent cities and in Toronto/Montreal's case huge hockey markets to play for. Edmonton if McDavid is still around likely offsets the Canadian aspect for an opportunity to play on a team with Connor.

But ya I could see it being an issue on top of other issues for the Jets, Sens, and Flames.

Hi guys,

with all what happening in Canada with those restrictions, a lot of player clearly mentionned not wanting to go to go play for a canadian team, even some wife of players are starting to voice their displeasure...

So how much they will have to overpay if they want to get any interess from the players if there is any?

Keep the conversation civilize as most as possible

Toronto +5% viewed as the best chance of winning in Canada right now
Montreal rebuilding +35% on the high end FA .
Edmonton and Winnipeg being smaller markets +25%
Calgary is seen as an upgrade on Edmonton for some reason +15%
Vancouver has it all . Best weather , Mountain ,Ocean and city size but they are likely making changes so there some question marks +10%

Above prices are for the 1st tier of FA . The margin bin ones take what they can get .... Probably can get Holland to cave and give them term .

I lived in all the cities except for Edmonton and I prefer Calgary over them . I don't like Vancouver but that was probably because my sister inlaw was stabbed the death by her BF and he was only give 3 years

edit : Sorry Sens fans forgot Ottawa

Ottawa +5% base on cheap owner

There's no straight line number, and you can kinda say right now it only may matter for Vancouver and the Alberta teams. Leafs don't have the cap space to sign anyone who isn't a project, injury case, or maybe a Spezza-like scenario, Habs aren't really at a stage to be doing much in free agency, and Ottawa and Winnipeg are gonna have trouble getting UFAs in a good year.

You could also look at it like Canada landed the biggest FA in probably about a decade

Off the top of my head he's probably the third biggest UFA ever. One ahead of him is Chara, but Panarin is more recent. May be forgetting someone.

NHL Rumour Roundup: Will Canadian buyers be at a trade disadvantage?

In light of Justin Faulk's recent comments RE: playing in Canada, there seems to be a lot of chatter in the industry about guys not wanting to be traded to a Canadian team. Now, this has been somewhat of an issue for Canadian teams in the past too (higher taxes, colder, less to do, etc.), however it seems that harsher COVID restrictions have lead to even more guys not wanting to play in Canada.

What do you think? Is this going to be a major issue for Canadian teams at the TDL? If so, which of the 7 teams do you think will be most affected?

It wasn't last year, if you are good players will come play for you.

Just move the Canadian teams to the USA....preferably places that haven’t lost their minds ...which rules out Cali and East Coast.

The restrictions absolutely play a roll. Edmonton has a hard enough time getting UFA players. Players on expiring deals might not care as it’s short term. Anyone with any ntc protection likely declines

If a player has a trade clause they can request not to he traded to any team including Canadian teams. If not, they have no choice.

You do know like 40% of the leagues revenue is from Canadian teams right?

Funny how its always an American bitching about something that isnt even related to their country
"Always" is a strong word for something that doesn't take too long to prove the other way....But that's for another thread.

But, I feel players with the ability to decide where they get traded to, and having to choose or not choose Canada, strongly "relates" to their situation. Sure maybe not their country, but I feel like its ok to "bitch" about some place if you have the ability to have your say in living there.

Unless you know that and are just hurt by these comments and need to vent, then I'm sorry, carry on.

As long as the player doesn’t have a no movement clause I don’t think it’ll affect the TDL much.

Nothing new when it comes to Oilers. US born players usually have us on their NTC list.

f*** em!

Oilers current roster has only 2 US born players and both are from Spokane
