How many goals for Ovechkin this season?

25-30.

Every time people think this guy is cooked or washed (hell look at last year, he looked AWFUL for the first half of the season) he goes "nyet comrade" and proceeds to score like 30 goals in 40 games or some crazy shit.

Agreed with the sentiment his days of having a monopoly on the Rocket is over, but he's going to break that record even if the Caps have to force him to shoot 45 times a game.

His super slow start last year makes me think that he didn't do a proper off season training, and he still managed 31 goals. If he comes into this season in good shape, he has a chance to break the record.

After January 1, 2024: 45 games, 24 goals, 20 assists.

If he shows up in shape, watch out.

obviously biased but I bet he gets the record this season despite the start of the decline. Ovi is always very Ov ish when he gets close to a milestone. Its just who he is. Its in site this season with scoring up and a lot of god awful goaltending out there.

For the sake of the Caps who basically put their rebuild on hold for Ovi to chase his milestone, hoping he gets his 42 goals.
Why are you making stuff up?

Last few years at the draft:
2024: 1x first rounder, 2x second rounder, 2x third rounder
2023: 1x first rounder (8th OA who is one of the best prospects outside of the NHL, 1x second rounder
2022: 1x first rounder, 1x second rounder, 2x third rounder

Going any further back is silly because they were a top-5/6 team in the league in both 2021, 2020, 2019, 2018 etc.

Looking back at trades:
2024: Got younger by trading for Thompson, Chychrun, Mangiapane, PLD. Got rid of Kuznetsov, Mantha.
2023: Got rid of Eller, Johannsson, Hathaway, Orlov. Got younger by bringing in Sandin.

The Caps were a solid team from 2018-2021 (with their worst league-wide points finish being 6th place), then when they realized they were losing their competitive edge, traded a bunch of the older depth, brought in younger guys, and made a bunch of good draft picks. They have had a first round draft pick in 6 of the last 7 drafts.

As of today, the Caps are younger than they have been in a long time, and have some real good prospects (Leonard, Cristall, Parascak, Hutson, Miroshnichenko, Lapierre).
