How many 60 goal seasons will Auston Matthews put up in his career?

Only 20 players have ever scored 60 goals in an NHL season, with 8 players achieving the feat multiple times. It's been done just 39 times in total.

Notably, Alexander Ovechkin, considered by many to be the greatest goal scorer of all time has only done it once.

Is this a fluke season for Auston Matthews where the stars aligned and everything went right, or can we expect him to put up these sorts of numbers going into the future? How many times do you think he will hit that legendary 60 goal marker in his career? How high does he make it up the list?

60 Goal Scorers:
(x5) Wayne Gretzky (81-82, 82-83, 83-84, 84-85, 86-87)
(x5) Mike Bossy (78-79, 80-81, 81-82, 82-83, 85-86)
(x4) Mario Lemieux (87-88, 88-89, 92-93, 95-96)
(x4) Phil Esposito (70-71, 71-72, 73-74, 74-75)
(x3) Brett Hull (89-90, 90-91, 91-92)
(x2) Pavel Bure (92-93, 93-94)
(x2) Steve Yzerman (88-89, 89-90)
(x2) Jari Kuri (84-85, 85-86)
(x1) Steven Stamkos (11-12)
(x1) Alexander Ovechkin (07-08)
(x1) Jaromir Jagr (95-96)
(x1) Teemu Selanne (92-93)
(x1) Luc Robitaille (92-93)
(x1) Alexander Mogilny (92-93)
(x1) Bernie Nicholls (88-89)
(x1) Lanny Mcdonald (82-83)
(x1) Dennis Maruk (81-82)
(x1) Guy Lafleur (77-78)
(x1) Steve Shutt (76-77)
(x1) Reggie Leach (75-76)

Of course it will be 2 more after this year. How else will we continue the actual vs On-pace for arguments that HF loves more than life itself?

1. If Ovechkin played in the same era as Gretzky and Lemieux up through 1995-96 he'd have multiple 60-goal seasons and that goes for Stamkos too. If Gretzky played from 2005 onward he would not have nearly as many goals but he'd still have huge point totals and a collection of Art Ross trophies.

2. Matthews should score 60 again, scoring is as high as it's been since the mid-90s and he plays with another 100-point player on his line which opens up lots of space (and to be clear, Marner also benefits greatly playing with Auston) and obviously is a major help in production. [And he is really really good at scoring goals to begin with]

I think this is probably his high water mark season. I mean everyone always assumes star players get better and better as they age but the reality is that their best seasons usually occur before they reach age 25.
So I picked one.

Not a fluke. He would've easily hit 60 last year if it was a full season, this should be his 2nd one but obviously the shortened covid season. I think he hits it at least 3 times, I don't see any reason why he would slow down that much unless there's a major injury. He's 24 entering his prime, I see him being a consistent 50-60 guy til hes about 29 at least.

Last year would have been a slam dunk 60.

This year should hit it .

Realistically one but he has the talent to do it multiple times. It's a hard thing to do though and players have seasons where they go up and down. Just have to enjoy this season for what it is because there is a chance it will never happen again.

It really comes down to league scoring. He's extremely talented and might manage one or two more if things keep trending upward.

Even once is a fantastic achievement. If only 20 players have scored 60 goals, and if it’s only been done a total of 40 times in history, then that is the equivalent of scoring 130 points. I wouldn’t expect any player to do this more than once.
