To quote @NjDevsRR after tonight's game :

Nico shouldn’t be this bad.

Palmieri shouldn’t be this bad.

Subban shouldn’t be this bad.

Bratt shouldn’t be this bad.

Hall shouldn’t be this bad.

FIRE THE ****ING COACH. Cmon Ray, put an interim in.

How about Babcock as GM, could be worse that Shero? How long can the owners be satisfied with the product on ice?

It's pathetic. We've had rosters with terrible talent the past 5-6 years and had better results than this.

It is a shame. It’s so bad that it’s hard to say how bad t really is. Until they have a good coach in place you can’t be sure of what the team might be capable of. As others have said there is no reason a number of the players should be performing to these low standards. It’s almost like a field goal kicker hitting the uprights five or six times in a row.

Outside of PK, Most of these guys are actually in line with their career averages.

We have had ONE player score 60+ points in the last SIX YEARS. Our fans heavily overrate the talent that we actually have.

The goaltending, the coaching, the roster...all signs point to a complete failure in every aspect by Ray Shero at this point.

The Vets are in line with their Career Averages 'cause that's what we know about them after so many seasons played.

The Young players (Nico, Bratt, Hughes...) don't have enough games played to say "Oh! They are performing to their career averages and this is what those averages will always be."

We have nowhere-close come to the point where we say "They are what they are".

That is absolutely WRONG to put them in that category at this point of their careers. :shakehead:shakehead:shakehead

We are not overrating Nico, Hughes, or even Bratt and I think those that say we do are taking an unnecessary veiled shot at us who believe in our players. :madfire::madfire::madfire::madfire::madfire::madfire:

Nico is a good player.
Bratt is a good player.
Hughes is a beast.

If people believe we overrate them, that's their problem. :teach2:

That post is very strawman. There are 23 players on an active NHL roster, and you name only 3 of them?

I think it's pretty obvious @MauDevils didnt specifically mention any of those 3, and instead used the word, "team".

Do you have any comment on the other 87% of the roster?

This is out of hand. At this point it's obvious to the world these players & coaches are not getting along at all. My gut tells me Shero is not gonna do anything about this. I don't even think we can blame hynes at this point because it's officially now above him. It's up to Shero to make the next move & if he don't make it then he must go along with Hynes. I don't want Hughes or Nico being poisoned by this losing culture. We are the ones who are the laughing stock of the league. We are now a Mickey mouse organization. It's humiliating. We shouldn't be this bad at all. We must start calling for Shero's head. I think that may be the only chance we have to get hynes fired. #FireShero

BG, I mention those players in particular because the phrase "we overrate our players" includes them and I feel I have to provide a rebuttal for that.

Calm down.

(as far the other 87% of the roster, I don't care 'cause most of them, save the Goaltender, are either Vets Or Plugs who either "are what they are" or they suck..or both)

Yeah I also don't get who we're talking about as being overrated specifically. Maybe the team as a whole is overrated but I don't see a lot of veteran players get overrated here with the likely exception of Severson and now possible exception of Subban. Are we calling Nico overrated in his third year? Bratt?

A lot of our vets were acquired via trade, and judging by the large contingent of posters who cite those trades among Shero’s so called accomplishments, I’d say we do have quite a lot of fans who over-rate the vets on this team.

Overrate the Vets? Okay.

But some are including our young players in that "overrate" umbrella which is asinine.

I hope he gets fired only because of how slow he’s been moving is is inability to fire his horrible hand picked coach.

Hall, Palmieri, Vatanen, Subban and Gusev. Of those yes to Subban. Gusev was probably overrated but was and is a big mystery box who still has some time to make a mark, though he was a trainwreck early. Is Hall overrated...depends on what your expectations are for him. If it's 25-30 goals and 75-85 points then no, unless the injury permanently scarred him. If it's the Hart season then yes. Vat isn't overrated, most wanted him gone after last year when he had a poor year, but most want him signed now that he's the only above average two-way defenseman we have at the moment. Palm isn't overrated either. 25-30 goals and 55-60 points a year...he's pretty well done something along that baseline every year.

One of these three are the Devils problem: coaching, players, or Shero. Maybe all three. I picked Shero because he is in control of three.

Maybe you don't think the Devils' have a problem. Good for you. I don't agree.

Devils improvement please.

I find it shocking that 5 years into what was supposedly a total rebuild, there’s still not a clear cut #1 stud defenseman to be seen in the organization. But hey, we got a bunch of marginally skilled small forwards, so there’s that!

Shero has his flaws but he obviously did something very right that Nico happily upped for seven more years. I’m guessing Shero’s relationship with Hughes’ father will also pay dividends at some point.
Yea, he overpaid the shit out of him if he doesn't take a big leap forward soon.

Team has a lot of risk with that contract considering term. Homers on here act like Nico is a lock to become a play driving, 60pt, 2 way C. Those same folks also want Hall gone. Maybe said individuals should look at Nico's production per/60 with Hall vs without. Hint: It's 3rd line C caliber.

Now before someone naturally freaks out reading this or misinterprets my post, I still like that contract. It made sense. But much like mainboard fans criticizing it, the majority of you were wrong for jumping up and down as if it was a steal.

At this time, it was a FAIR contract for both parties.

A player who wants out doesn’t sign a fair contract that eats up UFA years. My only point was that reports said Nico wanted a long term deal also.

penguins fan coming in peace...

This was Shero's undoing in pittsburgh. Blysma was clearly an idiot that needed to be fired and Shero just wouldn't do it. Just saying he's gone down with his coach before. Is history repeating itself?

it totally is.

If you want, go listen to John Hynes post game presser from last night or after the pens game last week.

some doozies are it is what it is in response to what is wrong with the team, it’s a riddle that can’t be solved in response to why the teams offense is so bad, and ask the players tomorrow about why there were 21 turnovers last night.

you’re playing a team on the second half of a back to back last night and their third game in 4 nights, you would think you’d make your team as fast as possible but nope, he plays low event grind it out slow hockey
