Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. Goodrow will be unloaded via trade or buyout. That plus the cap going up a million or so will cover the difference. I’m also inclined to believe they will trade Kravtsov for a pick, but that’s pure speculation on my part.
Totally disregarded the cap increase, great point. Wish it was a few more million as originally anticipated.

Not my job. They pay professionals to do that but I don't root for accountants so I don't worry about it. They'll figure it out.

There are many teams that are in cap trouble. All the teams should just say, f*** it, and sign who they want. What can the league do to teams over the cap, really? Tell the league to take their cap and shove it.
Gauthier should be traded. I rather have Othmann or Cuylle take his full roster spot. Gauthier stinks

Someone will get moved, to open up space. Not really too concerned to be honest.
There's 15.2 million in cap space this off-season.. even if you calculate these exact numbers it still works without moving out any salary..
Apologies to EJ, but I think Kravtsov will be traded. Possible Gauthier could be gone.

Dropping Blais will be straight cap savings, they just locked up his replacement as far as roster construction goes (Vesey) for 2x800k.
Gauthier and Kravtsov being factored into next years cap seems dubious at best. If one of them are standing in the way of them locking in Laf, Chytil or K’Andre they will be out the door in a minute. I still think Kravy may be used as deadline capital instead of one of the first rounders. We’ll see.

If Panarin has a crappy playoffs, I think Drury moves on and figures out a way to ship him out.

He is a long tenure Ranger. Doubt they move him unless someone overpays. I bet Panarin moves before Kreider even if they got offered more for Kreider, they’d move Panarin instead.

Kreider is the dad of the team now (wow we’re old). Would be surprised to see him moved this upcoming offseason. Maybe further down the road when they hand the keys to the kids, if ever.

Yeah, I understand the reasons that make it less likely. At the same time, I didn't think we were going to trade Callahan until it happened and then we traded McDonagh. I know the reasons and circumstances were different for those guys, but the point remains that we will move on from long tenured, leadership players if we need to.
I don't WANT to trade Kreider, but I think his game is appealing on a number of levels, his cap hit is affordable relative to his production in a time when no one has cap space, and he's a winger when most of our "up and coming" younger players are wings. I think there's logic in trading him even if I don't really like it.
I know a Goodrow buyout is often mentioned, but that to me doesn't seem warranted at this time. Both in terms of how odious the contract is and what we'd actually save.

I think Chytil will be 4 years. He's still only 23 (turns 24 in Sept).
If the cap goes up by 4 mil, that would be tremendous. We'd be able to go longer on Chytil and Miller, though Drury might use the extra money to add another player instead.
