You could be right but you could also be wrong. Not every young D man takes till 25 to make an impact.

I just hope he signs. Until he does I will worry he may Reilly us.

I know, I know, he is glad he was picked by the Jackets, he would be foolish to pass up millions, etc. etc but words are cheap. Remember all those who were certain the 15-1-1 guaranteed success this year?
Difference is, Werenski has already said he would wake up a Jacket some mornings. Which in his first offseason is more than what Reilly ever said. I don't think he EVER had intentions on becoming a Jacket.

We don't have the cap space to put in a claim.

I might be mistaken, but technically I think we do because if we go over because of bonuses, which Murray probably won't achieve all of his, it will affect next year. That being said if Edmonton doesn't want him why the hell would we?

Low-cost gamble, basically. I wouldn't spend significant assets for him, but he didn't totally suck in NJ so maybe it's just Edmonton.

We would go over on salaries alone, so no we cannot make a claim.

Geez, those defensive stats are absolutely pathetic.

They are. Probably the least talked about issue with the team so far. I remember a couple years ago our best offense was just blasting away from the blue line and getting deflections or rebounds. Now they don't even shoot. Just cycle it around the boards over and over. It's pitiful

Edit: misread your quote.

Look at the seasons we made the playoffs and how many points were generated from the blue line.

The only defenseman I want back on the team next year are Jack, Murray, Savard. Golo can stay as the extra guy I guess, but we need new blood back there

Those stats really are grotesque.

Tyutin has fallen off a cliff offensively. He's a shell of what he used to be. Jack Johnson's offensive productivity has nose-dived this season as well.

The great Scott Howson signed Tyutin to a six year extension that takes him to age 34 or 35. Including this season, he's got 3 years left on the deal at a $4.5 million AAV. Moves like this are why Howson has spent the last three years keeping the coffee warm for hockey management luminaries Kevin Lowe and Craig McTavish.

Something needs to be done. I feel like we need to create some competition back there. Similar to when both Mason and Bob were fighting we need some competition and drive back there.

Jack can go too...don't care how many minutes he crunches...never been a fan, he's been the definition of mediocre...for 4.5m he can be upgraded

Mediocre? The guy is a top 4 dman. That's not mediocre. I know you've always had something against his game, and always try to trade him every year, but unless we're going for a complete and major overhaul of the D (Which I doubt can happen) I think its likely Jack is here next year.

I prefer to keep Bodnarchuk, Goloubef, and Connauton. They are effective and should be affordable.

In my dream rebuild the Jackets unload Tyutin (will have to retain) AND JJ (should have very good trade value) and go for one big trade target. Buff, Jones, Shatty, someone on that level.

What about Murray? He should be fairly affordable as well.
