How do you improve the Wings?

You'd have to give Mikko Rantanen what Draisaitl got imo in the open market, maybe more. Many teams would pay him.

Think 8 years 110-115 is a starting point. ( I'm personally not against it totally, just hope the defense isn't ignored. )

But just buckle up cause lots of fans get scared of big numbers and can't fathom a team with a player with a double digit million-dollar cap hit figure.

1 Lalonde fire
2. Kane try to trade him for whatever
3. Chiarot, still has trading value, Avs will be good place for him, second
4 Lombardi , Mazur, Elmer, Danielson call up fo evaluation
5. Tarasenko and Lyon at the deadline, both could get 2 +
6. Overpay, I don't care for #3 defansman next spring -summer .

- Keep Lalonde until the end of the season
- Embrace the tank
- Select a great forward that hopefully can join the lineup as soon as next season
- Get a new coach
- Danielson starts next season with the Wings. Maybe ASP?
- Husso, Petry, Kane gone and perhaps try and get rid off some of the bad contracts with just 1 year remaining(I imagine Copp and Compher will be too tough yet).

And go from there.

Rantanen would be my choice. Best playoff numbers, cup exp, good balanced scorer. I'd go to 12 for Miko maybe higher if the cap goes higher. I was using a 90 mil cap.

I just went with Ehlers as I think his cost control will be better and I think there is a greater chance he hits FA with peg.

Marner is fine if we plan to deal most of our smaller wing prospects to upgrade other areas. I'm a little leary of signing a playmaker to big time bucks just because we don't have a lot of scorers on this team. We certainly have no one of Mathews caliber.

With that said. I think if we are ok eating a bit of money, promoting kids and acting aggressively Stevie could turn around the team pretty quickly. We aren't locked into tons of unmoveable contracts just ones we'd need to eat money one.

We just can't sign anymore mid- late 30s dump contracts or 3rd line defensive centers that we pray will be 2nd liners.

We also desperately need an NHL with some actual head coach exp. At least Blash looked a little mad on occasion.
I'm not knocking Ehlers specifically, but everyone on that second tier after Marner/Rantanen. If we're not going big, I wouldn't be enthusiastic for any forward outside of a one year deal again. I'm not interested in going all out to turn everything around in one year, and I think we can make incremental improvements over time from within. What we arguably don't have is that top level.

With Marner, I think he can act as the premier puck distributor on a second scoring line, what Kane used to be in Chicago. He helps alleviate the worry that we don't have a second high level scoring center.

With the kids coming up, we shouldn't need to sign any more Copp/Compher/Chiarot level guys. That's what I've seen as the goal: getting our system up to filling out bigger chunks of the lineup so we can free up resources to plug the remaining holes.

Guess we can give up on the fowler nonsense . Rather give up a 2nd in a deal for a 8 year younger hague

Didnt the blues send back a player that we invited to camp once? Lol wont even attempt to write his name

I think this is more serious than not. He's got some issues but he's a good player and what we're all asking for as a number 2 center (outside of the shoulder). Mentioned before and it got phoo phoo'd but I think Red Wings should try to swing a deal. He is young, signed, and fits the plan long-term. Idk what it'd cost to bring him in, I'd give up a 1st round pick with top 3 protections, it'd take a little more though.

It’s tough bc we’re in the same division. Although they just got Ullmark from Boston in the offseason. I’ve always coveted Norris, he’s definitely the right kind of Michigan guy to bring home.

There's some glaring holes out there that keep us from really doing anything consistently good

• Why the hell is Ras - Kasper - Kane a thing for the 2nd game in a row?

• Our bottom 6 sucks, because the players playing there are not true crash-and-bang guys, and are not skilled enough to hang around a top 6. Surround your Comphers or Copps (half-decent role players) with big fast physical guys like your Pospisils and Kastelics and Hathaways. Those guys can raise hell. I am okay with Fischer on the 4th line, but he's on the slower side

• With a strict realignment of players, our top 6 looks half decent if it would be:

Debrincat - Larkin - Kane
Berggren/Tarasenko - Kasper - Raymond

...Yet, it's riddled with small and mostly defensively weak wingers - not a successful recipe. Get one or two Kreider-types with speed, weight to throw around and decent goal scoring touch

• Tarasenko looked good as a 3rd liner on a deep Florida team, but the lack of depth here makes him not much more than just a guy out there. He's not a shooting threat at all, and that was his calling card during his prime

• Defense, you know the story. Need a better 2nd pair. Also play Johansson consistently. Hasn't given reason yet to be in the press box as much as he is
I still would like to see something like this. Kane looks the least lost 5 on 5 with Larkin. Not sure if they are keeping him on the second line to shelter him defensively or not. Haven't bothered to look at zone deployment for lines. I can't see how it would hurt to try having Raymond drive a line with Kasper. Ideally I would like to try Burgers there first. Tarasenko with Compher and Copp has not been the worst the last two games together.

It's only making sense to tank to get top 4 . Other wise not much difference. Yzerman needs to make decision now if he likes to get first line forward. The best of Our prospects now have second line potential and reality is
?-Larkin -Raymond
Ed Seider
? ASP

Everybody saying finish bottom 5 and hopefully get a player who could suit up for next season, does that sound like a Steve Yzerman move?
Does anybody think that management would put more than 3 rookies on the team next year? As much as I want to see the kids play, there's no feasible way we have more than 2 on the roster. Even having Raymond on the roster his and Mo's rookie season was a fluke.

I'm not sold on anyone joining the wings from this draft. If we get schaeffer(my preferred choice) he'll be 18 next Sept, too soon

As for the kids playing next year what other choice do we have ???? What's the point of drafting? If buchelnikov continues to dominate khl and shows at camp hes ready he needs to play

Mazur is ready. Wallinder will be 23,tuomisto 24 ... danielson will be ready for 3c . Cossa can tandem , soderblom 24

It needs to be done man ... we struggle a year they get nhl experience on a year we can land a game changer in gavin McKenna so be it

2 is probably the minimum unless something's going badly, badly wrong with development.

1 or 2 of Danielson/MBN/Mazur
1 of ASP/Wallinder/Buium
1 of Lombardi/Söderblom
Cossa?

Important to recognize that none of these guys will be 18-19 year olds. It's absolutely feasible to insert 3-4 of them.

True, but if Edvinsson started last season in Detroit, we already have some playoffs.

MBN , no way, Wallinder and Buium, no way.

These are legit, I'd throw Antti Toumisto in there too he's a former 2nd round pick quietly just playing steady. I actually think he's better than Justin Holl/Jeff Petry right now... but depends on who Red Wings bring in and move out during the offseason to say how likely all make the team, imo.

I'd be beating on at least 4 of those guys making the team next year.

Wallinder will be 23 . If we're not playing these kids just trade them. Its beyond ridiculous now

Buium will play another year in the ahl

Danielson + wallinder + cossa probably tuomisto unless he fails in his try out later this season and we move on

After that depends how buchelnikov pellika lombardi perform at camp

Ottawa would want roster players, not picks.

There is no quick fix. This organization is fundamentally broken. Can't draft, can't develop, can't scout, can't squeeze the most of what little they have.

Fire Lalonde. Try finding a coach with a proven track record of developing young players... somehow. Completely overhaul the scouting, drafting and developmental aspects of the front office. Trade everyone over the age of 26 and load up on picks, start playing all the kids to see who sinks and who swims. Fill out the roster with young cheap filler on 1 year prove-it deals. Be prepared to tank for a few years, and pray you get the lottery luck you've never had. Start from the ground up amd have patience.

If it fails, oh well. Either way we're shaping up to be on the same path, but at least we can actually say we're rebuilding.

Wallinder could still become NHL player, just not next season. Only ASP on defense has it , but you know Yzerman, he will stick guy in AHL, instead of developing him with higher talent.

I fully agree that it doesn't seem like a Red Wings move to put a bunch of rookies on the roster.

The Wings will have consider some organizational change over the next few years, they are going to have too many young guys knocking at the door to do a constant slow trickle of one rookie a year into the lineup.

At some point the over ripening of prospects has to either put on hold, or some have to be dealt.

Yzerman doesn't make moves for players unless THEY want to come HERE. *DeBrincat/Kane* Which honestly, I'm not giving him a ton of credit for bringing in because it's easy to bring in talent that wants to be here. lol.
you think it's a better idea to trade for players that don't want to be here? lol

Why not??? We dont need to have every prospect be 24 before they show up. He had shl experience + 2 ahl seasons

Tuomisto will be 24 I'd very much rather eat 50% to move holl and make him our 7th . We cant keep delaying kids

Cant imagine pellikka will go ride the bus in the ahl. He'll probably just play another shl season at that point. I'd say we need him for the ppl and if he can show he can play then put him in but who knows

If we start playing rookies at 24 only then sadly trade these guys
