How do you improve the Wings?

NHL and KHL have an agreement to honor each others contracts so no KHL player has “broken” a contract to come over. This agreement dates back to just after all the drama surrounding Radulov (and I think Kovalchuk too) ditching his NHL deal for the KHL. Some of them may have buyout clauses they can exercise though

Which sucks because I liked Tarasenko as a player. (I'm in STL.) I knew he wasn't the same guy that played for the Blues, but damn, his production really fell off a cliff here. I expected him to be at least 30, 35 pts at this point in the season and to be a decent if not better replacement for Perron or Sprong.
Trade him for an upgrade on Holl or for a pick or prospect or something.

30-35 points is a significant downgrade on both Perron and Sprong from last year. Especially when you factor in Tank’s defense is about as good as Sprong.

I think he can be a 15-20 goal guy in the right situation ,just hasn't been a good fit here

Rather get rid of him for a 4-6th pick and open a spot for danielson,mazur,lombardi,buchelnikov.... whoever shows up and takes a spot. Veleno and a few others gtg as well

There's currently no AHL guy who could take that spot.

If ne need the cap millions elsewhere, that's the only incentive I see in trading him.

So I would either:
A) keep Tarasenko
B) trade him for a defenceman to upgrade Holl position.

No guy in the ahl who can be on the 3rd or 4th line and not score ???

Rather have mazur/danielson for 20 games ... and no one giving us a d replacement on holl for tarasenko. We'd be lucky to land a 5-7th pick

Trading Tank as part of a Holl upgrade would be massive for this team.

I think Veleno in a winger role is more valuable than 4c. He’s played better as winger in his career so that might be his future calling.

Kasper - Larkin - Raymond
DBC - Copp - Kane
Soderblom - Rasmussen - Berggren
Veleno - Compher - Fischer/Watson/Motte/Shine

I don’t think losing Tank here does anything other than makes the team better defensively through addition by subtraction. You lose a little bit on pp2, but just play Berggren on wing instead of point, and put Edvinsson on point. Or play Soderblom in Tank’s spot.

Then there’s the added benefit of upgrading on Holl. It doesn’t have to be a huge upgrade; someone that can safely play 16-18 minutes and not be a f***up in his own end and can clear the net front.

Nobody is giving us a d upgrade for taking tarasenko . We gave away a 2nd with walman like fools

He did say “at this point in the season” which would put Tank at 45-52 points at the end. I think that’s in the neighborhood of what a lot of us expected.

A d upgrade in a vacuum? No. A d upgrade specifically on Holl? You could throw a dart at a list of bottom pairing defensemen league wide and the only way it doesn’t land on a defenseman better than Holl is if it lands on Holl.

The issue with trading Tank for a Holl upgrade isn’t finding a cheap Holl upgrade, it’s Tank’s M-NTC. Give me Jan f***ing Rutta for all I care, I’m just not sure Tank wants to go somewhere he has to play mentor on a bottom feeder.

- the goaltending is below average ... they need a upgrade there

- the team lacks toughness of any kind, mental or physical ... this has to be addressed.

- there's a number of guys just not getting it done ... Tarasenko, Veleno, Holl, Gus, Chiarot, Motte. Just move them out, whatever it takes.

- Larkin and Raymond have completely disappeared just when the Wings needed them the most. Especially Larkin for me. Raymond still seems to be pushing hard, just no luck. I mean Kasper has easily been the best player on that line since the 4 Nations.

- there's no easy fix, and it's clear now that this group cannot get it done without some better players coming in. But, in order to get good players, you have to trade good players or good picks. I just don't see Yzerman moving top picks, unless it's for a great young player coming with term. Dylan Cousins (now likely to go to Ottawa) would be a good pickup, but don't see it happening.

- I think you have to really shake things up at this point. You could easily move Larkin at the deadline here, but they have absolutely no other good centers. Larkin is good at a lot of things, but lacks hockey sense and that seems to strike at the worst f***ing time, over and over again. His legs are faster than his hockey brain. Feels like all of the positivity that happened with Todd, has vanished ... back to the same reality of the last 3 years. I mean, Mazur going down on his second NHL shift has to be a sign that this is certainly not the year to add deadline, short-term guys.

- Tonight VS Washington, seems like one of those 5-1, 6-1 losses. I'd like to be wrong. Just losing hope.
