How do you improve the Wings?

Where the hell is Washington getting clearly better from? Chychrun? Who is defensively bad, injury prone and a headcase? It was already a major miracle they were in the playoff mix last season, won’t be surprised if they draft top 5 next year.
They were better last season and they were one of the most improved team this summer .

PLD, Chychrun, Roy, Mangiapane

You really think that doesn't make them a better team?

I know you have never liked Chychrun, but you are really reaching there.

PLD was the 3C in LA. He's the clear 1C in Washington. I'm not expecting him to put up 100 points, but back to 60? I think that's a strong possibility.
Dude is a bona fide locker room cancer. No coincidence he's on his 4th team in 8 years as a former 3rd overall pick. Although I guess (according to Doughty) he's interested in padding his stats, so he's the ideal center to help Ovechkin break the record.

I don't buy Washington. Call me what you will, but I see them as a bottom 10 team this upcoming season.

wait, those are the best numbers he can put up and he's driven by padding his stats?

I think washington upgraded their blueline, but I'm with you on PLD. If i wanted to fight for the playoffs, he's not a guy I would want around.

If they're not, you've got to buy me a bottle of whiskey... 🤝 And if the Red Wings make the playoffs, I'll buy you two bottles!🤝

The Wings are not going to get Trouba and Ekblad. Ramus Andersson a RD could be our second pair RD. Petry and Holl don't cut it, Andersson would be an upgrade. He also had 9G A 30 and could be slotted on our second PP unit. I wonder if Stevie has looked into trading for him. His cap hit is also very responsible at $4,550.00 \AAV with two years left on contract and is 27.

Ya I was amazed they were stupid enough to sign him for that contract (term/money)

I was even more dumbfounded when Washington traded for that contract with no retention. Talk about desperate

Ya I'm sure playing with a selfless player like ovie will teach humility

On the paper Washington got better , in reality we will see , my expectation is we draft higher than Washington next draft

Once again, this still holds true. Yzerman trades don't leak. If Detroit is out there in rumors, it's because other teams are trying to use them as leverage.
No, Yzerman wanted Trouba bad. It was that NYR wanted to this to be a cap space move and not an in kind move. If NYR was willing to take a trash player from Detroit you’d see Holl+2nd for Trouba in a heartbeat.

We similarly don't suck because Ghost is gone...

That's not mutually exclusive with my comment. Detroit may have had interest, but by the time the Rangers leaked the list of interested teams to the media, Drury already knew there wasn't a deal to be had with Detroit. Otherwise he wouldn't have leaked their interest.

The trades that Yzerman actually completes come out of nowhere. If you are hearing about his interest in a trade, the opportunity has already passed.

4-8-3 in the last 15 games going directly one month back to November 8th, and two of those wins came in OT. 11 points of a possible 30, and I think having 7-8 more points in that stretch would have been an attainable result for us

We are:
29th in Goals For (2.48)
19th in Goals Against (3.07)
31st in Shots For (25.1)
28th in Shots Against (31.3)

On paper, the offseason roster turnover brought in arguably a net neutral effect, except the goaltending where Talbot has been superb for us. Obviously we have glaring holes in the roster at the moment, but this team could have a lot more wrung out of it if we had the right personnel directing the on-ice product

Looking into the Carbery thread for the Caps, good head coaches (new ones included) can make a lot happen with the right group of players. That is not happening here with this coach and group of players, and a change needs to be made

Either that, or we really are tanking this season away to finally have a chance at lottery luck. Such a weird, purgatory-like state this team is in right now

Is it really that weird? Many people predicted it could turn out like this, me included.

Hopefully Larkin can convince Brady Tkachuk to come play here during the 4-Nations Tournament.

Our new version of the Shanahan trade. :sarcasm: hahahaha.

The team is learning to play defense and we’re learning they don’t have the horses to both do that and produce offense. It’s not that weird. 8 of our losses have been 1-goal games. The last 5 can be argued to be the best stretch of games the team has played this season, and they’ve lost them all. It’s no surprise Yzerman isn’t overreacting imo.

Agreed. While it sucks to watch this season, it's really only purgatory if the Wings hang around this level for multiple seasons going forward. The rebuild has been an upward trajectory every season but this one may be a step back to hopefully take a bigger step forward next season.
