Honestly this is like the perfect season to tank.... only have to suck for 48 games instead of 82...

And Ruff has done a bang up job at tanking thus far.... no reason to fire him until after the Sabres get the 1st or 2nd overall pick.... he's even made it so no one wants to even watch the Sabres this season :sarcasm:

Hoping this maintains, as I'd be even more physically sick to my stomach if Miller and Vanek carry us to 11th-9th range. **** this.

Yeah, but then he'd have an excuse. LINDY GOT US THE TOP PICK, WE CAN'T FIRE HIM NOW!

C'mon, it's not every day you land in the basement!

That moment certainly needs to be enshrined in it's own thread.

FIRE the leaderboard!

I understand we've worked hard for this moment so it's a moment we need to cherish, but Can't we do that in one of the other 'we suck' threads? ;)

I doubt this will make any sort of difference. Ruff admitting his at fault will only strengthen his position as coach. I still like the players with have and think we can win a cup with this team (minus Hecht, add a 2nd line centre). I can't remember where I saw it but I liked the idea of losing the assistant coaches and bringing in Numminen as and someone else (preferably no ties to Sabres) as assistants. Personally I'd like to add Drury for Faceoffs and attitude but that's probably just me being a big time Drury fan.

Realistically though, things would probably be significantly different if we weren't so banged up and Leino was out there...

We also need, at least, a defense that isn't total swiss cheese 90% of the time, actual scoring depth instead of drew stafford, a decent 4th line center instead of grigs, a competent backup goalie...

It just seems so obvious that Lindy is the issue here. In terms of talent, this is a pretty solid roster. I'm not saying it's a Cup contender, but it's a team that should be right in the thick of the playoff discussion. I know we've been saying it for a long time, but the only common denominators with this organization are Lindy and Darcy. Personally, I've liked what Darcy has done, and I don't mind him being here, but it's just time to part with Lindy.

Most of the defense I believe in. Myers, Sekera, McNabb, Brennan, Ehrhoff, Regehr, Sulzer can all fill important roles within the team but I'm not sure the same coach who got largely a team of grinders to the finals in 99 can coach this team to the cup now. Stafford I agree on, but that goes with my issue with the 2nd line (at least until grig/girg are ready).

Enroth could be a good goalie but Ruff has a big issue with goalies (especially backups) and if he keeps playing Enroth twice a month how good can you expect him to be?

Um, they had a guy named Hasek in 1999. I hope you're not serious with this stuff.

God, posts like this make my head hurt. When fans say stuff like this is just gives them even more reason to stick with the status quo.

I don't think it's narrow sighted at all. Money is the No. 1 factor for "most" players.

True, but money to pay for players isn't an issue the Sabres have. Pegula is trying to create a positive image of the team as well as further integrate the team with the fans. Keeping Ruff for another season has little effect on that if Pegula's plan is long term. They'll need to win eventually, but Pegula's long term plans don't hinge on Ruff leaving this offseason.

A parrallel: The Bills are trying to remain viable in WNY and Southern Ontario, and possibly build a new stadium. It's a ten year outlook. Do the Bills need to win in the short term for that to happen?

Oh, you'll see this a lot. You see, instead of trying to fit a topic into an already made "related" thread. The OP just makes new threads. It's just what he does. I thought he turned over a new leaf because I haven't seen the OP make a new thread in awhile. Then I remembered... The lockout.

This roster is awful. They both need to go.

You seem to assume I want to keep Ruff. I think until we make a change with Ruff and Regier (at least Ruff) we are on to a loser. My point is I don't think we have a bad group of players. I'd change Stafford and Leopold and make a few other more subtle changes but other than that I think we're ok.

This is my point with the O'Reilly thing, why just change more players if the on ice product is still the same, boring, losing team? Just a waste of fanboy anger. We've changed players and and changed owners and staff and assistants.

Ruff will do very well somewhere else. Let him have that chance.

We were fine defensively and lacked offense last season. This season our offense is ok but our defense is awful, same roster. Ruff admitted to trying for a more offensive style this season and it's hurting us.

For over 10 years we've had the same pattern of being horribly streaky, most of the time awful at the start of the season but firing on all cylinders at the end. We have had a merry go round of backup goalie's who've played fine elsewhere and bombed here. I was a Ruff supporter last season but there is a pattern and he seems to be at the centre of it.
