Bit of a coincidence.

Sometimes I'll wonder what Kaleta's ceiling was and think about it for far too long. I don't remember too many guys just throwing their bodies around with reckless abandon like him. The interesting part was that he had some soft hands and a penchant for the net once in awhile. Came around 10 years too late.

What a series of miserable trades.

Hasek eventually turned into Hecht when it was all said and done. The trade to get 36th overall in that draft was more confusing (the Sabres traded the 35th overall pick AND a 3rd rounder to move back one spot, because… reasons).

So 35 + 62 for 36, and 31 + 36 for Hecht

It was.

What a series of miserable trades.

They used one of those 2nds and another to get Hecht a short time later that day. They were also working on getting Mike Grier that day, per Mike (he too was at that draft).

So today wasn’t a good day in Sabres history (June 29). They traded for Ehrhoff (2011), traded away Montador (2011) and drafted and never signed Steve Webb AND Shane Hnidy (1994, 3 picks apart).

Man, Webb woulda been a fan favourite as I liked him when NOT in Buffalo. Him driving Tucker apeshit would have definitely spiced up those early 2000s battles.
